Do Mourinho’s rants serve any purpose?
I’m a Manchester United fan but I absolutely love Mourinho. Not because he’s a brilliant manager - he’s not - but because he gets on everyone’s nerves by spouting absurdly biased views and still manages to get the best out of his players.
So when Mourinho says that Manchester United are lucky to be top, it makes me laugh. When he says United’s win at Fulham was undeserved, it’s even funnier. When he talks about Giggsy’s goal againt Lille, you know he’s playing the media, and you know he’s laughing inside too at the stupid hacks who gobble up every word and use it to fill their column inches.
For my money Mourinho’s playing the media and he knows damn well that luck plays a role but not enough. We are far too quick to ascribe things to luck - the little things, the effort made in training and the cumulative experience of going through tough matches and situations for 2-3 years shows in crunch situations.
Now I’ve said this earlier, that Mourinho’s ramblings don’t put pressure on opposing players. All they do is draw attention to topics Mourinho wants people to focus on and plays the media.
I’d like to think that it’s a sly trick by Mourinho, because the alternative is that he’s one of those who refuses to take responsibility for his team’s troubles.
Do I expect too much?

Jose is doing exactly what Ferguson did last year in a similar situation.
Frankly I don’t believe it will make one jot of difference to anything.
Totally agree Ahmed.
Mourinho brings some colour to the Premier League.
The way he celebrated against Barcelona also showed how much he cares about football and it’s great to see a manager that passionate.
I think one reason he tries so hard to stay in the spotlight is because it reduces the pressure on his players. I believe when Chelski played Barcelona away(this season or last, I am not sure), Mourinho went out on the pitch before the game began, so that the Barcelona supporters would boo him. I think the idea was that they would get so tired after booing him for a full minute or 2 minutes that the Chelski players would have it easier once the game started. I think it is an intelligent tactic, and it represents the way he uses the media. He tries to be the most hated person so that his players have to take less of the hate. I believe king Cantona made a similar observation last year.
Till this season, I thought he was a master tactician, but some of his buys have been downright bizzare, and most of his substitutions once Chelski go a goal down are very predictable. I can’t quite figure out whether to respect him as a tactical genius or not.
Personally I think Mourinho is a bit of an idiot. I’ll never forget him celebrating at OT before the final whistle had even blown against Porto.
God knows what he’s talking about now. How many times have Chelsea been lucky over the last 2 years? It’s about time we had a bit of luck since a lot went against us in previous seasons! He’s just mad because the tables have turned!
Hopefully with little coverage the bloke will disappear up Lampards fat arse.
Kramer,
You’ve got to wonder though.. Were they HIS buys….. I don’t think a lot of them were
