All - thanks for the comments.

Ron - there were just two Kaunas players in the most recent Lithuania squad, who will remain eligible to play. The national team does tend to pull slightly bigger crowds than league games - then again, there are bus queues in Vilnius with more people than some of the stadia on a Saturday afternoon. WC qualification, unfortunately, is probably beyond Lithuania (despite the best efforts of Raymond Domenech) this time. I'm not sure it would necessarily have any meaningful impact on the domestic game anyway - getting to Euro 2004 hasn't done a great deal for the Latvian league.

Dexter™ - reporting a belief does not necessarily mean sharing it. And this certainly is a story.

Pure conjecture.

I don't for one second believe Romanov is crooked.

Non-story by biased media.

They like their basketball, besides having European Championships per capita certainly, Lithuania with a "tall" people must be the best basketball country on earth.

The National Football Team of Lithuania has hit the top 30 and just dropped two games to France, 1-0 in both I believe. Now, Lietuva (Lithuania) sits at #57 and third place in the world cup qualifying group 7 but are still in a shout of going. They really were doing well until the last round of internationals and are in a tough group with Serbia, France, Austria, Romania and the minnows Faroe Islands.

I wonder what the effect of this might be on the National Team and if the National Team lacks the fan support that might see them in the World Cup? Does anyone know? Thanks.

It's quite ironic that since his arrival in Edinburgh, Romanov has banged on about the Glasgow 'mafia' that is the SFA that runs Scottish football, when he himself has had a stranglehold on Lithuanian football for so long.

One of his favourite claims was to point to the corrupt referees that grace our game, yet he himself has attempted to influence which referees would take charge of Lithuanian matches.

I just hope that the decline of his empire doesn't have any knock on effect at Hearts than it already has, especially with things starting to go well for us again.

The feel good factor is back at Tynecastle but, with the events of the last four or five years, we are always apprehensive about getting too excited, knowing that turmoil could be just around the corner again.
