Kickoff will be at 19:45 at a packed San Siro in Milan, with this the final European club match before the start of Euro 2016.

The UEFA Champions League final is the most important game in the footballing calender, the concluding match of the most prestigious club event in the world. Real Madrid are ten-times winners and the most successful side in the history of the competition. Their opponents Atletico Madrid, who are looking to win their first ever Champions League, are their bitter cross-city rivals, with the upcoming match a repeat of the 2014 final in which Real won their tenth title – La Decima – 4-1 after extra time.

Real attacker Cristiano Ronaldo is all but guaranteed to win the competition’s golden boot for the top scorer this season, with the Portuguese captain currently on 16 goals – seven ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in second. Ronaldo has won the Champions League golden boot four times in his career (one shared), with his expected fifth win taking him level with Barcelona’s Leo Messi in the record books.

Despite Ronaldo’s scoring, Real Madrid have struggled in recent seasons against their less favoured rivals, Atletico. Since beating them to win the 2014 Champions League final, Los Blancos have only managed to beat Diego Simeone’s side once in ten games (five losses and four draws). Their last encounter ended in a 1-0 win for Atletico at the Santiago Bernabeu – only a third defeat in 26 games for new manager Zinedine Zidane.

After that defeat, however, Real pushed Barcelona to the the final day of La Liga after going on a 12 match winning run, scoring 39 goals in the process. They also beat Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City to book their spot in the Champions League final.

Atletico, who finished third, dispensed of the aforementioned Barca and German giants Bayern Munich on their way to the final in Milan.
