Celtic ready for Milan-sized giant-killing

Think Milan will have it easy against Celtic? On the contrary, this is THE one match tonight that has the most potential for an upset.

Celtic have an excellent record at home, and combined with Milan’s troubles on (and off) the pitch, it promises to be a cracker of a match. Ronaldo is ineligible to play for Milan in Europe, which means Milan will be lacking a serious goal-threat and will be looking towards Kaka to be both provider and scorer.

Celtic’s take-no-prisoners, full-tilt approach has to be admired - they will cause Milan plenty of problems with their approach play and willingness to run at the opposition. While Celtic also lack that killer edge in front of goal, their hustle-and-bustle approach combined with home advantage will go a long way towards offsetting the injury concerns and the prospect of facing Milan.

Celtic are yet to concede a goal at home in the Champions League and manager Strachan expressed a desire to keep it that way, suggesting that his team might be just a tad more careful than usual against Milan considering their injury list.

Strachan: “I would like to stop Milan scoring. That’s not how we’ll set up, but if it gets to the end of the night and they haven’t scored then we’ll be in a decent position.”

Milan have the pedigree but their troubles at home (match-rigging, fan violence, lack of money in Serie A, etc) and lack of significant reinforcements this season have set them up as ‘there for the taking’.

Celtic will know that, and will hold the fort at Celtic Park knowing that if they have a go at Milan at San Siro, they could easily score an away goal.
