Celtic star’s bustup with Strachan has Bayern and Newcastle on alert

Could the latest turn in the rift between Celtic star Aiden McGeady and manager Gordon Strachan be the beginning of the end of McGeady’s Celtic career?

The 22-year old Ireland international has been suspended for two weeks without pay after a bust-up with Strachan after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hearts. McGeady and Strachan reportedly had a previous ‘incident’ earlier this year, so this most recent issue might be the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to say.

As it happens though, McGeady is planning on appealing the suspension, and that could be the biggest slap in the face to Strachan. Strachan’s certainly not going to back down from any insubordination, so the only option for McGeady if he wants to remain at Celtic is to fall in line and not make the rift any worse than it is.

But, if it’s clear that he’s not going to do that, then it’ll be in both parties’ best interests to part ways.

McGeady has been a regular for Celtic since the 2004/05 season, and he’s played a big role in their three straight SPL titles, with his form last season earning him the SPFA’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

The potential fallout between player and manager is sure to alert several clubs around Europe, and there won’t be a shortage of offers. Bayern Munich and Newcastle are already interested in him, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tottenham make a move for him, as they’re looking for someone to solidify the left flank.

Should Celtic sell McGeady? If they do, where do you think he could end up?
