Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has refused Manchester United offer, twice, according to reports from Spanish newspaper Marca.

The highly successful Italian, who won Champions League with AC Milan and Real Madrid, was approached by Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer. However, he politely declined the opportunity to manage the Old Trafford club.

Manchester United endured a frustrating campaign last season where they finished outside top four for the first time in the Premier League history that cost manager David Moyes his job. The Scot was replaced by Dutchman Louis van Gaal in the summer.

However, Marca reveals prior to the signing of Van Gaal, Manchester United approached Ancelotti to take charge of the club. ‘No chance’ came the possible reply from both Ancelotti and Real Madrid.

What is interesting here is, it was not the first time United approached Ancelotti. Ferguson personally wanted the Italian to take the job at Old Trafford after his retirement. Ancelotti on the other hand was contemplating on leaving PSG, and United approached him to take charge at Old Trafford, but the former AC Milan manager chose Real Madrid instead.

As per Marca, Ferguson even met him at Paris where he tried to convince him to take the job at Manchester United. Ancelotti told him that he prefers a move to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are looking to tie down Ancelotti for a longer period of time at the club. Under him, Madrid are looking invincible at the moment, leading the La Liga table, two points clear over Barcelona and are also looking favourites to retain the Champions League as well.

Ancelotti recently admitted that he is negotiating on a new contract at Real Madrid. He said in an interview:

“I hope to be part of the history of Real Madrid, not just for winning the 10th Champions League. I have a contract until 2016 and we are talking about my renewal.”

Marca claim that Ancelotti will be handed a fresh one year contract with an improved salary offer. The Italian reportedly earns 7.5m that makes him the highest paid coach in the world already.
