Carling Cup 2nd Round Draw
The Carling Cup second round draw was announced yesterday, with ties to be played in the week starting 27th August.
Here’s a list of all the fixtures (Premiership sides in bold):
Plymouth v Doncaster
Southend v Watford
Nottingham Forest v Leicester
Wigan v Hull
Birmingham v Hereford
Carlisle v Coventry
Bristol Rovers v West Ham
Derby County v Blackpool
Rochdale v Norwich City
Portsmouth v Leeds
Cardiff v Leyton Orient
MK Dons v Sheffield Utd
Burnley v Oldham
Swansea v Reading
Peterborough v West Brom
Shrewsbury v Fulham
Wolves v Morecambe
Middlesbrough v Northampton
Sheffield Wed v Hartlepool
Luton v Sunderland
Wrexham v Aston Villa
Charlton v Stockport
Newcastle v Barnsley
Bristol City v Manchester City
For sides that might be struggling a bit in the league, cup ties at this stage can be a tricky affair - win and the result might translate into a better performance in the league, or lose, get humiliated and tumble further down the league table.
Don’t think any of the Premiership sides will be too concerned with the ties, although with the form Middlesbrough, Fulham, Wigan and West Ham are in, they’ll need to be extra careful here. Manchester City have a slightly tricky tie as well, but their new-found ‘class’ should see them through comfortably.
