In Copa America 2007 Riquelme played together with Veron and produced very good football coz Veron could push the ball in the offense , and Riquelme didn’t have to come back to get the ball, and Argentina only lost to Brazil because of bad luck-stupid mistakes in defense.Why have to choose between Veron or Aimar now , and not try to put them in together? Veron can play beside Mascherano , so you create a fantastic defending-attackind middfield duo in the centre and Veron can distribute fantastic short and long passes to the wingers (Di Maria-Gutierez) to the trequrtista(Aimar) and also long accurate passes to Higuain,Messi . So..i believe that a system 3-5-2 (with Gutierez and Di Maria at the wings-Veron and Mascherano at the centre and Aimar in front of them ) would create an explosive combination I don’t think why Argentina with so much attacking talent should waste it by putting 4 defenders, while the two wingers can also play the defending role at both sides of the field .

Great …Aimar is a very good playmaker….but i dont think Diego will fall upon him….may me mascho,cambi,zanetti ll be his choice…With 4-3-3 Argentina are goin to be big flop in WC2010…play tevez and messi in flangs with 4-4-2 formation…they are good defence shacklers…!!!

Gordon – You could use the “enganche” but “Trequartista” is used in Argentina as well due to their Italian heritage.

To add to the conversation – if Argentina are playing 4-3-3 who would be the 3rd midfielder? In my mind Gago hasn’t made the grade at Real Madrid, his chances this season will also be limited with the arrival of Alonso.

Technically if you’re talking about the position (the hole) in Argentina it would be the “enganche” (spanish for hook) instead of trequartista. That’s the name in Latin America.

Aimar would be a good choice if he keeps up his positive play with Benfica. Veron is too old to lead a midfield in a World Cup.

I think Aimar can be the main man for Argentina, not too sure about Veron. Also, not too sure where Tevez fits into the 4-3-3 formation!

I really like Aimar and I think he could be the man for the job. I’m not totally conviced that Veron should be the main man. Also, the 3 up top with Messi, Aguero and Tevez wont work. A different combination is required, Messi is an obvious starter but not too sure about Tevez in particular.

If only Maradona could open his eyes and realize that aimar is the only option even with an available Riquelme.

Aimar + Messi = wc 2010

Bielsa ignored him and so did peckerman and hence lost their respective world cups. Can maradona get rid of veron, go to aimar, and save his? only time will tell.
