I totally agree with you on this one Ash. It sounds impossible, it seems impossible but below I’d just like to explain why I still think there can be a Liverpool vs Barcelona semifinal.
1. First of all, liverpool is a team that never takes defeat as an option. We all saw that in the the final against AC millan. If we can heal a wound of 3-0 after 45 minutes then we CAN (no matter what the stats say) overcome a 3-1 loss.

2.Now for the coach. Guus hiddink, as we all know is really extremely talented. Has the ability to improve a team real fast. But… his way of coaching is the tactical way. He figures out the weakness of a team and then plays according to that (like blocking Gerrard-toress) with Essian. And he admited the whole thing. Now I’d like to remind you people what happened in the Euro cup last year. An unexpected 3-0 win against Netherlands put Russia into the semis. Now Holland was a team with tactics and gameplan. That’s why they were able to find a weakness in it. But lost against Spain 4-1 cuz spain was unpredictable and flexible with there gameplan. Now if Benitez can only realize that and watch how the goals of bolton on Saturday were scored, then I’m pretty sure he can figure out the weakness in Hiddink’s plan and use it to his advantage. That’s his bad side, when you play by tactics only, don’t focus on improving the team on a firm and permanent basis, then even the slightest of unpredictability can take the team down with a loss like 4-1. Now I know Chelsea’s not like Russia, but still I’m talking bout the coach here.

3. When cornered Liverpool is at there best. When they never scored a goal before in stamford bridge under Benitez, they scored twice last year against chelsea in the Semis. Liverpool is in a much better form now then they were last season. I’m not ensuring a win but I can say this

This WILL NOT be an easy match for Chelsea.

Mascherano was missing last week. Will play this week. Essien will have far more work to do if Chelsea think he’ll be able to cancel out Alonso/Masch/Gerrard (if Gerrard plays). Don’t rule out Liverpool.

Hiddink will play with two holding midfielders.Essein will once again cancel out gerrard while Mikel will sit back infront of the defence.
Liverpool will be so desperate to attack all the time that chelsea will have numerous chances to score on the counter-attack.

Look, Liverpool players don’t WHINE like Chelsea players (especially Drogba) and they don’t GLOAT like Untied players. That is why LFC has the most die-hard fans in the world. So what are we looking for on Tues? Well, just like in the 2nd half of the 05 final. One goal at a time. I am sure our players are thinking of the same, because even if we lose, our players are gonna fight til the end for the fans and deliver a memorable performance.
