Accomodating the vast array of talent gathered by the Blues this summer could prove to be a challenging task, even for the insufferable Jose Mourinho.

As the new signings have rolled in over the off-season, the question as to how Chelsea are going to facilitate the combined egos of some of the worlds best players has become ever more taxing for the fans.

Some argue that it will be a matter of pandering to the ‘Galactico’ tag Chelsea have adopted, by which Mourinho will simply choose the best eleven players and adapt the formation around them.

It is more likely though, that Mourinho will go for function over reputation, rotating the team as he sees fit and sticking to 2 interchangeable formations (the familiar 4-3-3 and last season’s conservative 4-4-2). This could end up frustrating and alienating the fringe players, which in turn would damage the “family” ethos Mourinho has been championing in his inverviews with the press recently.

Chelsea will be desperate to retain the Premiership title, and with the experience of Shevchenko and Ballack bolstering their squad, they are expected to launch a full on assault on the Champions League.

However, if there is further unrest caused by influential players being left out of the first team, there could be serious problems at the Bridge that even Roman’s rubels cannot solve.
