Can Chelsea stop the Liverpool juggernaut?

Can Chelsea stop the Liverpool juggernaut?

With only a handful of games left to play, this season’s Premier League title race looks set to go to the wire, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all still in the running to be crowned kings of England.

But it is Liverpool who hold the advantage, with their 3-2 win over City on the weekend putting them two points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at the top. While City are by no means out of it, Chelsea’s trip to Anfield on the 27th April has been earmarked as the title decider.

But can the Blues oust their stunning title rivals in their own back yard? Does the remaining fixture list benefit the Blues?

Looking at the above fixtures, it seems Chelsea may yet get the jump on their rivals. With Sunderland up next for the Blues at Stamford Bridge, we can realistically see Chelsea gaining all three points; but Liverpool’s record against Norwich is unreal, and you’d be mad to bet against them getting a win over the Canaries, home or away.

Poor Norwich are then up against Chelsea in West London after the crunch game at Anfield, with Liverpool facing a decidedly tricky test away to Crystal Palace.

Tony Pulis’ side have lost only once in their last five Premier League matches, with Chelsea among their recent scalps, and have conceded just the one goal.

Astonishingly, only Chelsea, City, Everton and Man Utd can boast a better defensive record than the Eagles this season, and while Liverpool are as free-scoring as they come, Palace at Selhurst Park will be a tricky hurdle.

A home tie against an out-of-form Newcastle will round off the season for the Reds, with Chelsea off to face relegation threatened Cardiff.

It all seems to boil down to the clash at Anfield. Jose Mourinho is not one to receive a footballing spanking, but considering the potency of that Liverpool attack, he will have to be at his tactical best to avoid defeat.

Chelsea have the best defensive record in the league, and have meted out their own thrashings this season, with Arsenal on the end of a 6-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge last month.

But Liverpool are on an unprecedented 10 match winning streak, and boast the best player in the league in Luis Suarez.

There are however, certain factors that have arisen this week that could effect the outcome of the match.

Daniel Sturridge limped out of the win over City, and the Metro reporting that the 20-goal man could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. Also, the brilliant Jordan Henderson picked up a straight red at the end of the game on Sunday, and will miss the Chelsea match through suspension.

The Blues meanwhile have the two legs of their Champions League semi-final sandwiching the Liverpool clash, which could throw up fatigue and injury worries.

We at Soccerlens cannot wait for the game, and I’m sure you’ll join us in hoping that Liverpool vs Chelsea lives up to it’s billing as Premier League decider.

What do you think? Who will win the title? Liverpool? Chelsea? Manchester City? Let me know in the comments below…

Real Madrid to rival Manchester United for €45m midfield sensation
Red hot Liverpool star targeted by Real Madrid BUT...

  1. “he will have to be at his tactical best to avoid defeat” Jose’s tactics are always the same. Play for a draw and hope one of his star players nick a win.

  2. For the first time in awhile it’s Chelsea who will fear playing Liverpool and Liverpool will be looking forward to it. Chelsea fans not respecting the minute silence will add to the Liverpool players and fans motivation.

    • Get your facts right. The Chelsea fans outside the stadium were making noise as they were being accredited into the ground. I was there and because it’s one of the smallest stadium in the epl the noise was caught on TV. All Chelsea fans inside the stadium observed the moment of silence. Unto the game, Chelsea are used to overcoming such obstacles. Rodger worked under mourinho and all his moves tactically will be countered by the special one! ask city fans what they thought about our victory at the El hitad, it was master class. I see a repeat at Anfield.

  3. @patrick, just as he played for draw at mancity? Get a life dude! It was d same comment u made at chelsea vital and tbh its getting really boring!

  4. Chelsea will win the league if they can avoid loosing any of their last 4 games…technically cfc defence will make the difference

  5. @Patrick, be careful dude so that you will not be hiding your face in shame cos I foresee the special one beating and the roman army marching over the kids in red

  6. I think game will end by win scoring 4 goals for both teams, (because liverpool played well these season), (chelsea played well for big games), (referee must be serious) (because 4 players for both teams have problems in playing field) Sturridge- diving, Suarez – diving, Terry-handing ball, cahill – foul.

  7. If Mou wins all the remaining fixture games, then it’s only a matter of Man city drawing one game! Up blues!!

  8. Only Liverpool have his own future in his hand winning the remaining features and lift the epl but even if Chelsea overcome all their features they will still be waiting for mancity to fall but mancity can benefit from livpl vs chels match. but if Liverpool wins all their matches then the league is theirs as well if mancity wins all their matches and Liverpool draw then the league is theirs but if Chelsea wins all their matches and mancity draw or loose don’t be surprise seen Chelsea lifting the epl . Is only Liverpool holding their destiny by themselves shoul they win all their matches then they crowned epl . But i c blues carrying the champions league nd epl up bluesssssssssssss

  9. Some comments here are not worth appearing on net for reasonable minded persons to read. Poor English, stupid analysis. Brendan Rodgers worked under Mourinho right, but today he’s better than him tactically. Mourinho is always very nervous quarreling with match officials and himself too anytime Chelsea is playing even with relegation bound teams. Chelsea can never withstand Liverpool forward threat come April 27th. Up LFC. YNWA.

  10. Liverpool will be champion, they are on their peak form and most formidable this time around. Cheers !
