Calling all Liverpool and Chelsea fans – Gerrard vs Lampard

Who is better – Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard or Chelsea’s Frank Lampard? That where this discussion turned to, and since it has been such a contentious point for both sets of fans (plus England fans), let’s find out…

How do you compare the two best central attacking midfielders in world football?

Honours

Frank Lampard

Club (West Ham, Chelsea):

Personal:

Steven Gerrard:

Club (Liverpool):

Personal:

Standout abilities

Frank Lampard:

Frank Lampard has lethal shooting accuracy with both feet whether he is at close range or hitting the ball from distance. He is a typical “goal scoring midfielder” in the Scholes/Poyet mould. His ability to delay and time his runs makes him a lethal target man when arriving in the penalty area. His ability to maintain control of the ball under pressure, and pull competing midfielders out of position makes him an asset strategically as well as technically. His eye for the long ball is outstanding, and he is able to pick out players from a distance with clinical precision. He is also very dangerous from set pieces, and is a confident talented penalty taker.

He is a competitive player who likes to dictate the tempo of games, whether he is speeding things up with a surging run or calming things down with a pressure releasing lateral ball to a player in space, he is often the controlling influence in midfield battles.

He holds the record for the most consecutive appearances ever in the top division, and his amazing fitness levels are revered world wide. He is an influential and well respected player within the game, and has exceeded his potential tenfold through hard work and perserverance.

Steven Gerrard:

Steven Gerrard has explosive potential, and is a player capable of bringing any game back from the dead. His behaviour on the field is exemplary, chasing down every ball and making tackles your average centre back dreams about. His vision for the pass which unlocks defences is incredible, and his inspired cross-field passing is matched only by his ferocious long distance shooting, which seems to improve when his team are desperate for a goal. Gerrard is a talented free-kick taker, and is always a threat from dead ball situations.

He is not a typical central midfielder, as he holds the natural ability to outpace most players over short distances as well as the engine to keep him moving from box to box over 90 minutes. When he is on form, he is a fearsome prospect to play against, which lifts his team and decreases the confidence of the opposition.

He has the backing and support of the public because he plays with a passion and ferocity that is apparent in every run, every turn and every shot he makes.

When in possession, he encourages his team to press up the pitch and his influence can be the determining factor. His movement off the ball contorts defenses and causes opposition players to make mistakes, which in turn creates gaps for him and his team-mates to take advantage of.

Weaknesses

Frank Lampard:

Lampard’s slight lack of pace over short distances means he can get caught in possession when making attacking runs. The fact that his form doesn’t often drop means that when it does, he often tries too hard to get it back. He is quite badly affected by negative press, and needs to develop his self-confidence to maintain his professional manner on the pitch even when he is considered to be playing poorly. He can get wound up, and sometimes shows dangerous zeal in the protection of his team-mates and will often directly contest what he perceives to be the correct refereeing decision by flying into challenges. Lampard can take a little while to get into the game, rather than starting explosively.

Steven Gerrard:

Gerrard’s tendancy to look for the “Hollywood” ball, can undermine the quality of his build-up play. Sometimes he is overly rash in the tackle, and can find himself getting wound up on the pitch if he isn’t getting enough of the ball. Inexplicably, his influence in big games is sometimes not up to the incredible standard he has shown in other similar instances, often when he is expected to be the biggest influence. He has been injury prone in the past. His team haven’t facilitated his development as he has been their standout player since he broke into the first team.

All of these negative traits seem to arise when either of the players have hit a particularly poor vein of form. They both are still better than anything else the premiership has to offer in midfield, regardless of their form.

My Conclusion

  • The players are of equal standing, yet they are not quite as similar as people suggest.
  • Lampard thrives mostly on possession, where Gerrard thrives mostly on powerful distribution.

The thinking man’s choice would be Lampard, as he provides a calming influence as well as a lethal cutting edge in any game, and when he is playing well, will boss any midfield in the world.

The passionate fan’s choice would be Gerrard, as he provides the explosive influence that turns a game in one swift movement, whether it’s with a inhuman crossfield ball to test the defence’s resolution or a netbursting 30 yarder in the dying seconds.

For those of us that like to think we’re both passionate and thoughtful, it is almost impossible to say which player you would rather have lining up for your team.

They both hold most of the same properties, as well as being the best in the world in regards to their “standout skills” mentioned above.

Needless to say, you wouldn’t want to play against either of them. icon biggrin Calling all Liverpool and Chelsea fans Gerrard vs Lampard

My choice would be Gerrard. He is the most complete player in the world, capable of attacking and defending as well as motivating his team mates. It’s a shame he didn’t get chosen as England captain. Lampard is a good midfielder but he lacks committment at times as we saw in the world cup. Clearly when Eriksson played Gerrard and Lampard in the centre midfield, he wanted them to rotate in protecting the back four, but 80% of the time, it’s Gerrard who have to do all the work while Lampard stays in the opposing half.
In my opinion, I wouldn’t even trade Gerrard for Terry and Lampard combined, he’s much more than that.

I find it insulting that some people think Lampard is better than Gerrard. Gerrard is the better all around player and I consider Lampard a player who shoots from everywhere with no enterprise in his game. I know Lampard scores more goals but he has Makelele and Essien there to prevent him from any defensive worries, whilst Gerrard was often used as a right midfielder last season and had to help out the full-back and still manged to create and score goals. Gerrard has more passion, pride, awarness, accuracy and will win games on his own.

I think Fletcher is a better CM than both of them together…

Hey I’m a MU fan, what do you expect me to say about my biggest rival and my biggest obstacle to what is ‘rightfully’ mine (…the PL trophy). :-)

Seriously, I think both are equal, evn though they are different. Both have a role to play (maybe 1 for 1 half and the other for the other half of the match). I don’t like the teams that they represent (for sentimental reasons) but if I were a club manager(even ManU manager), I wouldn’t waist a chance of signing either of them should they become available. They’re exceptionally good.

Good analysis. I’m not sure whether Zechs or Eusebio have actually watched Lampard play (live, in the flesh) if they think he lacks commitment or has no enterprise or doesn’t do any defensive work. Gerrard is capable of more inspired play, but Lampard has remarkable drive and is a very intelligent footballer (see his goal on Wednesday: end to end, with clever passing).

I also think he might have the edge tactically and, possibly, technically – having seen Lampard improve over the past four years I think he has worked very hard on aspects of his game that come naturally to Gerrard, which means he understands why things work a little better. This means, of course, that Gerrard is the more naturally gifted, which I don’t think anybody would dispute.

I don’t rate either as particularly good defensive midfielders, although they can tackle, they’re both too selfish and too impetuous. Indeed, to say that Gerrard is better because he has to do more defensive work is kind of missing the point, given that he doesn’t do it particularly well and shouldn’t be doing it at all. It’s not Lampard’s fault that his manager knows how to get the best use out of him!

But I love watching Gerrard seize a game and inspire others through his determination and self belief.

These are slivers of difference – I like them both a hell of a lot, and thought they dovetailed superbly on Wednesday.

i agree with some of what peter says, but say you were alex ferguson and were given the opportunity to buy one of lampard or gerrard to improve your team who would you choose?

Gerrard every time for me, he offers so much more to a team, did u see in that friendly against argentina when it came to a situation that gerrard was playing right back for the last 10 minutes and he got on the ball and set up owens equaliser.

As everyone knows, in football, whatever is best for the team is the most important thing and i think that over the course of a season, or even a game, gerrard does more for the team. (while also being individually better than lampard!)

Ok, you chelsea fans will say ” 16 goals from midfield in the league…a record!” but realistically in a chelsea team tailored to lampard being the main goalscorer that is not as brilliant a feat as it looks.

Also, paul scholes scored 14 league goals in 02-03 without any penalties, and i think this is a better achievement than 16 goals including 4 penalties (also scholes played 2 games less!)

It was a great article but I was pretty dissapointed when you took the easy way out to choose both Lampard and Gerrard. At least you’re keeping both the fans happy eh?

    August 18th, 2006 @ 17:31
  9. Peter

But it’s not so simple, Ferguson has gone on the record about how much he likes Lampard – he thinks he’s got a phenomenal engine and clearly admires Lampard’s consistency, which over the course of a title campaign is far more important than being able to seize games by the scruff of the neck. (The Scholes comparison is a good one, but I think Lampard has slightly more to his game – he’s certainly more influential.)

Over the past 12 months, Gerrard shaves it (especially since he’s become more consistent and less injury prone), but over the previous three, Lampard’s had far more influence for club and country, certainly too much to have him written off in the way some commentators have been so eager to do.

    August 18th, 2006 @ 18:19
  10. Soupdragon2

    Yep.

I can see what you mean when you ask “who would you buy”. I think realistically at this point, you’d probably buy Gerrard if you were playing in the premiership. It is down to his age and the intensity of our league week in week out.

I have this feeling that Lampard will be off to Barca at the end of the season (with Chelsea fan’s blessings by the way), and seeing as his father played professionally until he was 41-42, I assume Lampard COULD continue into his mid-thirties and maintain his influence in a less physically demanding league.

However, the article isn’t about deciding who you would buy, it’s about which player is better!

I guess Lamps shades it for me, but that’s probably because I try to appreciate the unsung areas of midfield play rather than simply admiring the spectacular.

    I DONT KNOW, THEY’RE BOTH GOOD :(

ps. Lampard doesn’t flick his leg back and stumble then complain to the referee to get a CHEAT penalty against Sheffield Utd. So therefore he wins.

Gerrard is 100 times better than lampard. He has same qualties as Lampard but at the same time he defend just like he is a pure defender. He can play almost everywhere in the pitch. Lampard is pure attacking midfielder but Gerrar is all-rounder.He also has a leadership qualities more than Lampard.

Like Eusebio, I find it insulting that people even COMPARE Lampard to Gerrard. It is quite obvious to me that Gerrard is a far better player and a far more valuable addition to any side. Lampard is simply a consistent player, but there’s certainly nothing special about him. He’s certainly not capable of turning a match around like Gerrard is. Gerrard is the better player by a long shot.

oh my godness how can i compare Gerrard with lampard,Gerrard is more deeply better than lampard although both of them have weakness and strength differs each other but i believe that liverpool caption natural inspiration with addition defending tactics lookback how Gerrard leading his club for memorial day for istanbul it is un forgettable night for any person who was watching at the period and also the liverpool captian has innate power for equalising goals for 90 minutes scoring goals for long distance up to 40 yardes his speed is to fast that any midfielders he magnificent player with top class look! how pelle and maradona supported gerrard and leaved with lampard, lampard has alot of players around him al the time like ballack, shevchenko, makelele, essien. robben, cole, top top top players so how can you compare those two players.

Gerrard is younger than lampard and got prestige more than lampard he won his club european champion in 2005 and FA cup for 2006 Community shield, he scores goals and passes with long distance and also has frequent speed for running so he is uncredible player and better than lampard

Isn’t it interesting how the Lampard supporters seems to be quite reasonable about it, whilst all the whining Scousers can say is how insulted they are that Gerrard’s being compared to the infinitely more consistent, measurably more effective, Prozone-proven more athletic Lampard? It’s almost as if they were all mentally-deficient flag-wavers with high-pitched voices and bad hair. I hope no one points this out to them.

Lets settle this once and for all. Steven Gerrard is far better than Frank Lampard. Thing is, Frank is a great player but Steven Gerrard is the type of player we have not seen in this country for many years. Its a shame football is becoming a non contact sport because Steven Gerrard has the grit and determination to GET STUCK IN. All for the sake of the club he loves. With all the overseas players you dont see the same commitment. He is passionate about his HOME club. I dont see Frank getting forward then getting back to defend the same way as Steve does. Gerrard is the best passer of the ball I have ever seen. As for their England performances, I blame Sven and Steve McClaren for stupid formations trying to accommodate David Beckham. Gerrard and Lampard should be in the middle with Joe Cole and Aaron Lennon either side. Steven should be England captain but thats not to say John Terry can’t do a good job. Make Gerrard captain and you will get more from him. He thrives on that. Also I can’t remember Steven Gerrard scoring with shots that are going wide, but deflect off two players before going in….like Lampard

    Gerrard
He has va-va-voom.He averages two assists and half a goal every match. He has won every cup an English footballer can win.He has scored in every final played. He is the 2nd player who shook the Kop.

    Lampard
A good footballer with lot of personal achievments but with no excitment. An ordinary midfielder

Personally, gettin bored of the same old comparison. People need to forget about the goals that some bloke called Frank scores. That blokes job isn’t to score goals and neither is Gerrards. Its the rest of the game both players need to be focusing on. And with that in mind, i can’t find one area of the game Lampard beats Gerrard at, or even compares to Gerrard at. Id like somebody to point out to me what Gerrard can’t do on a football pitch. Something im really struggling to find. If we are talking who is the better footballer, we have to be considering more than goal tally’s. Always remembering, Gerrard certainly hasn’t got a bad goal ratio. The better footballer can do things on the pitch better than the other. Agree??? Good. Gerrard can do everything.
The hardest thing in football has got to be the killer ball. But i like to call it the “Stevie Ball”.
I cant sit here all day going on about this, ill get the same boring response from every Lampard fan out there.
There is no comparison. Gerrard being compared to Lampard is a bit harsh on Gerrard. Gerrard is WITHOUT DOUBT one of the best footballers on the planet. Lampard im afraid, just doesnt cut it in that league.
To summarise……. i bet Gerrard is even good in goal!!!

Good article, most of it true, I think it is right, but you should have picked a winner.

Out of all the comments Peters (9) were definitly the most accurate. People should think more in terms of the contribution someone makes to a team in terms of what they add to the dynamics of their team and how well they do their jobs. Gerrard is the more gifted (hes DAMN gifted), and what he does catches the eye better. However in terms of playing the role as a central midfielder hes not as good as people seem to think. He bucaneers all over the place leaving holes and spaces in the midfield, his passing ability is good but he doesnt have a an amazing reading of the game which means play cant be built around him. for all his talent these are things that really matter for a central midfielder. Why o you think he doesnt shine in big games or for england or against the best organised and most talented teams. Lampard can actually do his job and perform the role better.

    May 19th, 2007 @ 18:32
  33. Billy

yes they are both great players in their own way but all round it definitly has to be stevie G for me.
two years ago it was a debateable arguement and most would of said lampard but seriously now there is no contest gerrard is better in everything he does. and for those saying lampard scored 16 goals??? have you guys been watching the top scorers table or not? last season steven gerrad scored 23 goals! his personal best and alot better then most. he managed 23 goals plus going back and defending so how many would he score if he played more offensive like lampard?

…exactly i rest my case GERRARD GERRARD HES BIG AND HES HARD, HES ALOT BETTER THEN FRANK LAMPARD!!

  34. JAYCEE-1094

    well…

Gerrard is better. His all round play and contribution to a game are far greater than that of Lampard. Having said that, i rate Lampard and i feel he is a good player. However, Gerrard ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS stands out, where as lampard has his good games, but also has his bad games. He (Lampard) has been the “crowning glory” of a chelsea team dominating previous seasons, when they dominated, but when other players dipped in performance, so did Lampard. Whereas, even when liverpool play badly, Gerrard stands out.
Gerrard is also much more versatile than his counterpart. Whilst both have great stamina, the scouser is clearly more athletic. He goes past people easier and his crossing and full pace running is second to none. lampard is also 2 years older than gerrard, so lampard has reached his peak, and gerrard still has a year or two to go till he reaches his peak.

Goalscoring wise Lampard has scored more than Gerrard overall. But when this argument first came to light in the seasons of 2004/2005 gerrard scored 13 and spent 2 months with a broken foot, and lampard, not getting injured, scored 19. If Gerrard would’ve been fit, maybe the stats would be different. And thats counting the 3 pens that Lampard scored. A penalty is a shot that anyone can convert. If Jamie Carragher strolled up and scored 10 penalties a season, he still wouldnt be thought a goal threat. But he is. He could still break Rush’s record – if he continues to play until the 3040′s!! Over the two seasons of 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 Gerrard scored 36 and Lampard 39. Then take 5 penalties more off Lampard. And then give Gerrard 1270 more mins of football – more than 14 games worth (which Gerrard missed) – and i think the tally’s would be different. And they continue to score at a similar rate.

    As a conclusion…

Gerrard can pass (as can lampard, but gerrard chooses his passes better)
Gerrard can lead (better than Lampard)
Gerrard can change a game in seconds (for the better!)
Gerrard can play beautiful, diagonal balls (passing needs to be mentioned twice!)
Gerrard can defend (better than Lampard- I don’t care what any Chelsea fan says, it’s true!)
Gerrard can play in 4 positions (DM, AM, RM, CM) (which is 2 better than Lampard!!)

So, basically, GERRARD IS THE BEST MIDFIELDER. IT CAN’T BE DENIED.

Gerrard all the way. Lampard is decent but has all the help he can get in chelsea and most of his goals tend to deflect off about three players then accidentally go in, and by the look of his celebration he’s never expecting a goal in the first place but to ping someone in the crowd. In the england team he basically does not like his role so sticks to the one he has in chelsea so instead of alternating with gerrard, he stays forward forcing gerrard back. showing that he does not read a game but he is just an opportunist, gerrard can create and finish at every level not too mention defend and counter attack like the best of them.

    Undoubtedly Gerrard is the best

With all the comments put forward how is it that chelsea fans still find the need to say that Lampard can change a game. When in some instances this is true but is there any true comparison between Fulham/Charlton and AC Milan. I’d take the player who can single handedly pick his team up by the scruff of the neck and come back from 3-0 and still lift the trophy at the end. Gerrard and Lampard in my opinion cant even be compared for example Lampard is always looking for glory for himself, and whatever chelsea fans say it takes more than a glory hunting performance to become a world class mid-fielder which in my opinion Gerrard is. A mid-fielder not only needs to score but can control the game, lift his team, pass with confidence and fluentcy and score frequetly. Which in my opinion only leaves one of them there. Gerrard gets my vote hands down.

gerrard is seen as that inspirational and influential in his side liverpool, all in the name that liverpool cannot boast of players of his type and in that any few incursions he makes is branded unprecedented. in a chelsea team that can boast of equally good players like ballack, essien, drogba, terry, deco and the rest, very little is seen of an individual player`s contribution.yet lampard has powered his way through in matches against barcelona, manchester, arsenal and any other oppossition he has met. marking the night with incredible performances and unthinkable goals, not fogetting chelsea bashing liverpool by 4-1 at anfield in which gerrard was a mere passenger. prove me wrong! liverpol and gerrard fans.

those stats are not really much different and when u consider, as andy gray said that gerrard has been used in all sorts of positions then thats a better club scoring record for gerrard ..and lampard 16 in 66, gerrard 15 in 70 for england, theres no difference, other than the fact that every one of those games lampard has been in his favourite position, gerrard has been mostly stuck out on the left, right, anywhere but where he should be! Give gerrard 66 games in his ideal position and he would double lampards goals easy.

This debate is meaningless! Gerrard my bumm oh pls! . By statistics, by every evidence searched on the web or even by watching the games, LAMPARD is on a very much higher level compared to Gerrard clubwise or even for england games. Ive never seen much goals from a MF in Lampard in my whole life. LAMPARD is simply the BEST sorry pals!!! I guess most people are liverpool fans or wotever so they jst cant be unprejudiced and face the truth.

bare in mind Gerrard was originally a Defensive mid (mascheranos role) , for a large proportion of those 400+ apps (hence why he has scored a little less). Bare in mind that he has also played a season on the right wing an been utilised in many different positions that lampard would struggle.

    December 30th, 2009 @ 23:29
  70. Toffee T

Being an ardent Evertonian I have no alligence to either so here is my view.
Lampard is an average player who lacks technique, flair and has always had good players around him who have made him look better than he actually is.
Gerrard has everything, his goals come from anywhere and any angle, he has won countless games on his own including a European final and Fa cup final, he has played countless games out of position and still looked the best player on the pitch and no offence If Zidane says Gerrard is the best who are we to argue.
Also xavi and iniesta are the best midfielders on the planet and Gerrard is the closest player to these and would get in the Barcelona team as a holding midfielder which is not even his strongest suit where as Lampard would be laughed out of town.

Jus gotta look at the season weve jus had, a team that finished last year 2nd, struggled to finish 7th this year an was only one thing missing xabi alonso, u cant tell me losing jus him has cost u a place in champions league. Theres all this talk about gerrard an his leadership but in a season where they needed him to step up he didnt, was jus non existent. Gerrard is so over-rated if u ask me xabi played a bigger part for you than he did. I know lampard is playing in a better team, im glad u liverpool fans admit that but u still gotta get them assists an score them goals, 27 goals an 20 assists what more could u ask for from a central midfielder?

    May 12th, 2010 @ 21:47
  75. Red_till_death

Midfielders are not for scoring goals but they are for assisting strikers together with wingers and in this manner i think gerrard wins and talking generally can a striker could score even one goal widout assistance of other player. Liverpool doesnt have many good player so they can not provide gerrard with goal scoring opportunity..

Since this article Lampard has scored 88 goals, Gerrard 68. Chelsea have one 1 Premiership,3 FA Cups, League Cup and Community Shield. Liverpool nothing and if Gerrard really did come through in big games as he has the reputation of doing then there would have been a trophy since 2006 and Rafa would still be coach.

Lampard more goals, more assists, higher pass accuracy, more wins and more trophies.

To put it simply I am a everton fan so really I hate the pair of them however if lampard is better than gerrard which he isn’t why is gerrard the vice England captain and the current captain of England in the 2010 world cup face it gerrard is better also as was said earlier in the argument gerrard never played for England in his favoured position and scored 1 goal less than lampard and only played four more games give gerrard his favoured role and stick lampard out of position you will see a completely different argument however football is opinionated and no-one will pick the same side to put out on the pitch.

  80. chelseafan

lano your commet is pointless, i dont think anyone who favours lampard more than gerrard like me wouuld say lampard is captain material, we know that but that isnt what were arguing about.captain isnt always best player. got to agree btw with lorne, only need to look at what each of them has won, yes gerrard might not be in a better team but hes the one to blame for that, ask me hes been scared to move away from anfield because there it seems lyk he has a good game all the time and your gunna if the rest of the team is shit. dont get me wrong i think hes fantastic jus dont know why he stuck around at anfield for so long.

    July 8th, 2010 @ 01:34
  81. Dont hate

My God people, Chelsea just won the doubel with Lamps the highest scoring midfielder yet again! Stop wasting your time. Who was it that posted something about consistency? 22 goals in one season? Thats better than most forwards in the league. Gerrard is only loved coz he’s seen as a folk tale in liverpool. I don’t beleiev in fairy tales. The consistency of a whole team in terms of player skills is a good point and proof that a player can do well. But i think that applies to forwards getting help from midfielders and not the other way around. There will always be haters and those that hate chelsea becoz they still think that money bought them titles which is bullcrap especially when you take Real Madrid as an example: a team that spends millions every year with barely any respectful results.

Agree with Toffee T, as a Chelsea fan I think Lampard is a good player who fits well in the Chelsea unit who could easily been replaced by an Essien/Ballack/Deco or even now Ramires. It is Drogba and Cech that made Chelsea Champions not Lampard.
About Gerrard, he is also a good player, due to his athleticism. Comparing the two, Gerrard would be slightly better than Lampard due to his athleticism.
It must be noted that Lampard and Gerrard are NOT WORLD CLASS players hence the reason England struggle at world cups, they both lack the technical ability and possesion skills of a Xavi/Iniesta/Oezil.

LAMPARD KNOWS ALL THE TACTICS HE CAN PASS BALL WITH BOTH LEGS IN VERY TACTICAL WAYAND HIS LONG RANGE IS AMAZING AND SUPERB THAT IS WHY CHELSEA FANS CALL HIM SUPER FRANKY LAMPARD
    HIS FINISHING-10
    ACCELERATION-9
    ACCURACY-10
    BALL CONTROL-10
    LONG RANGE-100000000000000
that is why he is super franky lampard

I agree with the Everton fan. Lampard shows up well in the statistics, but when I’m watching him play I hardly notice him. He isn’t a world class player, he’s a good player who works well in the Chelsea mould, which is why he shows up so well in the statistics. For england, though, Lampard is often the weak link, looking out of his depth and nervous, although he does work hard. He’s a nice guy, and I don’t like to fault him because of that, but he isn’t a world class player.

Gerrard, however, is a whole different story. He’s past his peak, probably, and although he probably has another great year or two in him, 09/10 proved that he’s lost the ability to totally carry the team on his back. However, he was England’s one ray of hope at the world cup, and just watching him play when he’s on form is a terrific experience. His passion and leadership are vital for Liverpool, who but for him are a team destined for mid-table (not to insult players like Torres and Cole, but they can’t carry a team). He doesn’t show up so well in the statistics because he often doesn’t need to be there for the final ball/goal, he’s more involved in setting it up. My final point (and this one is indisputable) is that Gerrard is FAR more versatile than Lampard. For that, there is no argument.
