Can Rodgers take Liverpool further next season?

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Liverpool will not be expecting to make any transfers on the deadline day of the winter transfer window.

Sheyi Ojo and Lloyd Jones were the two academy graduates who left Anfield on-loan earlier in the window and the Merseyside club will not make any additions to the squad on Monday.

“We’ll be very quiet. I said at the beginning of the window, we were looking to keep all the players here, so it’ll be a quiet window for us,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s official website.

“With the group of players we have – and obviously the market dictates it as well – I am happy with how the team and the squad is developing and between now and the end of the season we’ll look to continue with that improvement. We would want to keep all the players here.”

The former Swansea manager stressed that there are no players out there who can improve the Reds’ squad for the second half of the season. Liverpool recalled Jorden Ibe, who was on-loan last month and the Northern Irishman has admitted that he would look into the club’s academy to see if there any chance of promoting players to the first team.

“It depends on the moment you’re in as a team – last year, we didn’t do any business either. Unless there is something that is there that you believe can really add to your squad of players,” Liverpool manager explained.

“Certainly, from my perspective, I don’t like to stockpile players. I’d rather look at our young players in the Academy and see if we can bring them through.

“That was the case this window with young Jordon Ibe, who has been excellent away at Derby. We needed another player to come into the squad in that area, so rather than looking to bring in a more senior player, we’ve got young players that were developing here very well. Jordon has come in and looked fantastic since he’s been back at the club.

“That’s the first thought – look from within. Of course, you always have to look for that star quality and if it’s not available, you work with what you’ve got,” Rodgers concluded.
