Brendan Rodgers confirms massive injury boost for Liverpool ahead of QPR clash

rodgers.epaBrendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool will welcome several of their key injured players back into the squad for their upcoming Premier League clash against Queens Park Rangers.

The Reds make a trip to Loftus Road for the Sunday’s fixture and the Merseyside club will welcome midfielder Joe Allen and Emre Can, along with defender Glen Johnson. However, the former Swansea manager is hopeful that summer signing Dejan Lovren will be fit before the match against the Hoops.

Rodgers, however, admitted that England international Daniel Sturridge will be assessed before the game to see if he can feature against QPR.

“Thankfully, we have got a number of our other injured players back. Joe Allen is training and looking really well, Emre Can is back, Glen Johnson is back in. So that side is looking healthy,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“Dejan will hopefully be fine for the weekend. We’ll have to see tomorrow how Dan is. We just need to see by tomorrow where he’s at and then we’ll take it from there.”

“He has obviously been out for a long time, nearly six weeks. He is working tirelessly with the medical team – I have got an incredible sports science and medical team here.”

“They really focus in on his rehabilitation. He’s a top-class talent and he’ll be looking forward to getting back once he’s ready,” Liverpool manager said.

With the return of Allen, it will give Liverpool more stability in the midfield. Also, Johnson can give the Northern Irishman more options while selecting his full-backs for the weekend clash.

Rodgers and Anfield faithful would be hoping that Sturridge could be fit enough to feature at some point in the match.

Liverpool face Champions League winners Real Madrid in the midweek European fixture. Having Sturridge fit for QPR tie will see the England striker get some playing time under his belt ahead of the crucial showdown against the La Liga giants.
