Bolton

Bolton

Bolton Wanderers defeated West Ham United 2-1 at home in their last league match.

In their last five league encounters, Bolton have won two (vs West Ham and Tottenham), drawn one (vs Blackburn) and lost two (vs Everton and Manchester United), earning themselves seven points from a potential fifteen.

The Trotters found the back of the net seven times and were breached nine times in these matches, as they currently sit 12th in the league, one point above 13th placed Hull and one point below 11th placed Sunderland.

Bolton will be without Vaz Te (knee) and O’Brien (knee), although Tamir Cohen and Nicky Hunt could be back from injury.

Newcastle

Newcastle

Newcastle United drew 0-0 at home to Everton in their last league match, continuing a run of three matches without a defeat.

In their last five matches, Newcastle have won one (v West Brom), drawn two (v Everton and Sunderland) and lost two (v Manchester City and Blackburn), gaining three points from the fifteen available. The Magpies found the back of the net five times but conceded eight times, and currently sit 15th on the league ladder, equal in points to both 14th placed Tottenham and 16th placed Portsmouth.

Newcastle will be without Xisco (toe), Joey Barton (metatarsal), Michael Owen (ankle), Tamas Kadar (broken leg), Habib Beye (knee), Ignacio Gonzalez (ankle), Andy Carroll (ankle/foot) and Danny Guthrie (hamstring).

The Magpies will also be without Kevin Nolan who picked up a three match suspension after a red card in Newcastle’s last match against Everton.

Prediction

Newcastle beat Bolton 1-0 earlier this season and were victorious 3-1 in the corresponding fixture last season.

With both teams showing some impressive results in their most recent matches, this match looks set to be a close one. With the home advantage in their favour, Bolton will go into the match as slight favourites for the win, although a draw or a Newcastle victory are definitely both possibilities as well.
