How can Bolton improve this summer?
As part of our 2006/2007 Premiership season-end review, here’s a look at how Bolton’s season went. Read up, then offer your own advice on how Bolton can improve this summer.
- Pre-season expectations: Bolton did well last season and were expected to improve and try for Europe, especially with Anelka in their ranks.
- Season evaluation: Did better than expected, although considering Sam’s ambitions it was exactly what they were aiming for.
- The Big Negative: Lost away games too easily and got hammered by the big sides – the defense still needs some work. Sam Allardyce leaving is also a negative but realistically speaking Europe is the best Bolton can aim for and it’s up to Sammy Lee (if he’s persisted with) to bring them back to UEFA Cup football next season.
- The Big Positive: European football.
- Summer Priority: Keep hold of Nolan and Anelka and beef up the defense.
Bolton don’t have the funds to make a challenge for the Champions League spots unless they get very lucky (like Everton did a couple of years ago). They have, however, done really well in the last few years and there’s a good chance that their ‘image’ of long-ball merchants will start fading if they can do this well next season.
Bolton could have made a serious attempt for 4th spot if they hadn’t conceded so many goals – it’s something that must be worked on otherwise Bolton will go backwards next year.
Now it’s your turn: How do you think Bolton can improve this summer?

The twat who wrote this needs to watch Bolton. Kevin Nolan is shit and our only priority regarding him should be to keep him away from the local pie shop.
Makes me sick every time i read an article people claim Nolan is influential. No, He is fat and Shit.
May 31st, 2007 @ 19:23Not sure Nolan is fat. And shit is a bit extreme but I’ve never been a fan of his. Hopefully Allardyce will come in with a £6M offer now that Parker is on his way. Andranik is a ready made replacement.
We need a complete new back four. Hunt (now he is shit) has no positional sense, Ben Haim on his way, Faye & Meite too slow on the turn, Gardner relies on his pace to get himself out of trouble to often and can’t cross. Not convinced that Samuel is anything but a utility defender. I’ll settle for top 10 next season.
Maybe we’ll play 442 and be more entertaining
June 1st, 2007 @ 00:57We need to beef up our defence a new Centre back in the form of Pavon. a new forward in the form of Henri Camara and a new midfieler as Harry Kewell. and another 2 defenders and we should be set next season.
