Bologna, the newly promoted Serie A club, have surprised everyone by winning the race to sign Cagliari’s highly rated midfielder Godfred Donsah.

Fiorentina even tried to secure a loan deal for the youngster with a mandatory 6m buy-out clause, but the money offered didn’t please the Sardinian club.

Surprisingly, Bologna, made a shock move and reached their own agreement with Cagliari, according to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport

Bologna and Cagliari are still sorting out minor details of the transfer, but as it stands, Bologna will sign Donsah on loan with an obligatory 10m buy-out clause. Once, the final agreement is reached, the Ghana midfielder will complete his medical.

Only four days back, Italian media were reporting that Chelsea are in the driving seat to sign the Cagliari midfielder. It could well happen that Chelsea didn’t shown enough interest while Bologna swooped in ahead of other interested parties.

Donsah, who made 23 appearances in all competitions, is a strong young talent but he doesn’t represent the right profile of player Mourinho is looking to sign at the moment. Anyway, Chelsea have been busy this week, and the Blues will be satisfied for the work they’ve done behind the scene by pulling off two superb signings in Abdul Rahman Baba and Pedro Rodriguez.
