Benitez plots move to sign €10m Chelsea and Liverpool target
Jorginho is one of the in-demand players in the Serie A at the moment. The 22-year-old has already scored seven goals so far for the newly promoted side, Hellas Verona and has caught the attention of top clubs in Europe.
Liverpool were interested in signing him in the last summer, while Chelsea have also monitored his progress this season.
Jorginho is a versatile player, who mainly operates as a central midfielder, but can play as an attacking midfielder or in the defensive midfield role too.
It seems however that Napoli have taken the early stride in signing the young midfielder. The player’s representative said few days back:
“He can leave Verona now if he receives a great offer – if an important proposal arrives it is fair that the player is allowed to leave.
“In Italy there are three or four teams who can pay for him and Napoli is one of them.
“Napoli is one of the most important clubs in Italy. If Napoli want him they should talk with Verona, who play their next match against the Blues. Now Jorginho is focused on the team and does not think about the transfer market.”
Italian newspaper II Martino reports that Partenopei have already agreed a fee with the player and have the necessary details ready with them and are simply waiting for the player’s signature to complete the deal.
The report says, the Italian giants will pay €7.5m upfront and another €2.5m will be added as a performance related payment. The player would likely to get a five-year-contract and would earn around €800,000 annually.
At this moment, the deal is not done, and there is no official confirmation from either of the clubs. Chelsea, will probably pull out of the race (if not already) as the Blues are close to signing the former player from Benfica Nemanja Matic, but can Liverpool at least try and lodge a bid for Jorginho?
