I asked the same question back in Barcelona ‘92. When the British had young talent like Giggs (19 at the time), Shearer (22), Lee Sharpe (21), Steve McManaman (20), Jamie Redknapp (19)…

There hasn’t been a British football squad in the Olympics since 1972! Although they’ve won Gold 4 times already!

There’s talk of a British squad for 2012, but it seems only the England FA are for this.

Actually, chidi, a British team did qualify. The European qualifiers were decided on the top 4 at the last Under-21 Euro Championship, England reached the semi-finals and so would have been awarded a place, except that only Britain can represent at the Olympics, and Britain doesn’t enter a team.

The first two groups look menacingly tricky while the bottom two are relatively simpler. Would be supporting Dutch to go all the way in this one .
