ART, it is the Dallas stadium with World Cup aspirations, good catch. Houston is working on a viable stadium (or move), but the Dallas Cowboys stadium, to be completed this summer, seats up to 100,000 and has the world's largest video screen. Said Gulati, “It was built with soccer in mind. So the field size and capacity are perfect for the World Cup.” Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones said he wants to host World Cup games and will showcase major soccer matches this fall.

In discussing the 2018 and 2022 US bids, Gulati said, “I think that over the next several months you'll see some prominent American individuals that have a love for the game be a part of our effort. We don't have any Americans who have won the World Cup as a player and a coach like Franz Beckenbauer. We don't have someone who has quite the same story as Nelson Mandela. We have a President who is known throughout the world right now as a leading light for change, and we think he can be an inspirational figure.”

Beckham should have stayed in Europe in the first place but we all know who wears the trousers in his relationship!

It's a clear case of Posh wanting to rub shoulders with the LA jet set and shop on Rodeo Drive......but then suddenly finding that Milan, the so called fashion capital of the world, was even more appealing, what with all that opportunity to wiggle her butt in front of dark, handsome Italiano's! :)

A $1.1 billion soccer specific stadium in Houston??? Uh, no dice. Maybe you're thinking of the Dallas Cowboys new stadium, which is being built in Arlington, TX (near Dallas) and not Houston. It has a retractable roof, will cost more than $1 billion, but it's a football stadium for the Dallas Cowboys.

The entire MLS league may not even be worth $1 billion if you include all of their stadiums, so there is definitely no chance of a $1 billion soccer stadium in Houston.

I think that any USA world cup bid should be centered on the various extremely large and posh NFL stadiums all over the country. There are definitely more nice stadiums here than in any country in the world, but they are simply not "soccer specific." Probably more than half of the NFL teams have built new stadiums since the 1994 world cup, and most of the new ones are incredible facilities.

It doesn't seem like a big deal to accommodate a pitch in NFL stadiums since NFL games require a bit of unused sideline space that soccer matches do not, so the field dimensions could probably fit in many stadiums.

NO WAY did beck's situation overshadow the US Nat'l team win. Beckham's has one effect on MLS soccer...ticket sales. And yes that effect will be far reaching but I for one am not surprised in the least...he's trying to eek out as much money and press as he can from his last few seasons as well as try to get that one last shot at the England team. Can't blame him for that but he did very little to elevate the game for LA or MLS.

The serious American fan knows that Beckham's departure will create howls among the mainstream sports media, but the effect of Beck's departure will only be noticeable at LA matches, both home and away.

Should Donovan's loan to Bayern become permanent, look for the Galaxy to miss the playoffs for a third straight year.

looking forward to seeing how the new WPS plays out.

don't think we're going to see Sven get sacked over this, although with the interest in him across the pond it would be good timing...

The Beckham story only overshadowed all of those things for journalists attached to their Beckham saturated news-feeds, not the 90% (at most!) of the people who simply follow the sport and enjoy the matches. The media flatters itself that enough people follow sport through the eyes of the press for these stories to distract attention from any of the matches you mention.
