Agreed Donovan can play in Europe, he probably should have plied his trade outside the US before now. The Beckham experiment in the US has sadly gone the way of the 'Pele' and 'Best' experiments - these individuals however talented are not able to bring the MLS up to the standard expected in Europe - their soccer struggles even to entertain much of the time.
It's not so much a lack of loyalty as a recognition that the latter years of his career are disappearing down the toilet in the football backwater of the United States. They have structured the MLS like their american 'football', basketball and baseball leagues - they can do this because NO-ONE ELSE PLAYS THEIR GAMES... and therefore there is no world market for american football, basketball and baseball players. The MLS cannot see that the way they run the league is incompatible with a world market for soccer players - and note it is the MLS who administer Beckhams contract NOT The Galaxy...!
I think Beckham now belongs in Milan - it is right for him as a player and that must be his priority. I am as sorry as anyone that the US experiment did not work, but let's say it as it is - it would be miserable to see him have to plod around the MLS for another season like a caged bear...

I'm glad to see somebody with common sense in their evaluation of Donovan. He really hasn't been given much of a chance to play in meaningful situations. But the idiots in the media have been overwhelmingly negative. I just saw some headline about the "debacle" of Landon Donovan's stay in Europe. It's anything but a debacle. And if I read one more paragraph about it being Donovan's "third failed attempt to play in Germany," I'm gonna puke. Donovans only "mistake" was putting himself on one of the world's best teams in a situation where he had to succeed instantly on a team that was loaded at his position. I think he'd have done better on a mid-level team. Had he succeeded he could have them gone up. The negative idiots in the media should compare the early attempts of some of the best strikers in the game. They will see that it took many of them longer than donovan has had to make an impact. This ridiculous expectation in the press that if you don't make an immediate impact in limited time you are a failure, is ungrounded in truth.
