Bayern’s summer buys are scary

I don’t know about you guys, but reading the list of players Bayern have brought in so far this summer makes me happy that United aren’t playing in the Bundesliga.

Miroslave Klose, Luca Toni, Franck Ribery, Ze Roberto, Jose Ernesto Sosa, Marcell Jansen, Jan Schlaudraff and Hamit Altintop.

Bayern have spent around 70m Euros and to be fair Toni and Klose are the only ‘big names’ in this list (Ze Roberto is under-rated though, and Jansen has a lot of potential IMO), but overall Bayern are investing heavily in their squad.

What are the odds for Bayern winning the Uefa Cup (now that Uefa Cup specialists Sevilla have qualified for the Champions League)? Tottenham vs Bayern Munich, if that comes up, will be a cracker.

What do you guys think about Bayern’s buys, and what it means for the Bundesliga’s title race next season?

  1. I think that the big names are: Klose (havent signed yet, but will soon) Luca Toni, Ribery, Jansen

Altintop is a great player and schlaudraff is quite gifted.

It was time to bring in new blood and mix it with the young rising stars like schweinsteiger in order to change the team’s state of mind from “it is alright if we lose” to “we are here to win”.

Oliver Kahn has mentioned plenty of times that the team lacks “balls”. Real men that fight, as we know the germans do, and just as bayern was during the time of effenberg.

Ottmar hitzfeld is going to integrate all those stars together and form a new disciplined bayern full of potential. Ottmar has mentioned earlier that he wont be looking for a playmaker, but he might be waiting for a young one to rise from the ranks of the youth team. The playmaker will be german,

Bayern were hoping that Deisler becomes the new Effenberg, and Deisler could have become a playmaker, although he plays mostly on the sides. It was a real shock that Deisler decided to quit at 26. Personally, i still have hope that he will return.

Bayern have learned from AC Milan, that older players can still give a lot to the team, but it costs money to keep them. They brought back Ze Roberto, and Linke. On the arrival of Linke, Bayern management said that he will be playing for the reserves, but trust me on that: when he will be needed you will see him in the first team.

As usual, and recently has been, the Bundesliga is going to be so attractive and interesting to watch and follow. Wether for the amount of goals scored or for the different tactics of different teams, or for the real competition. Even the smaller teams can always play good games, nothing is for granted, after all…the small teams are the ones that changed the top of the table results from the winter break onward last season. UEFA cup is going to give the bayern players a morale boost and make them be feared all across Europe when they return to the Champions League.

    Let’s go BAYERN!

exactly my thoughts…i never thought they had so much money though. u missed Franck Ribery in the list of “big names”.
and i dont think they r done yet…in the transfer market ofcourse.

  3. Makaay, Podolski (if he stays), Toni and Klose are a fearsome strike force, with the kind of quality midfield they have - they will be very dangerous.

  4. They will be a force to reckon with …………………………………. in the UEFA CUP.

Redondo puts it all into context there- in the UEFA Cup. I’ve a soft spot for Bayern but gone are the days of awe stroke fear stroke respect they demanded when the likes of Basler & Effenberg were basking in their own glory and self importance, so it’s good to see them buy a good mix of youth, flair and experience and hopefully restore some of that old Munich pride.

  6. klose deal confirmed a couple of hours ago

For those who think bayern will only shine in the UEFA cup

I tell them: you dont know ottmar hitzfeld

    that’s all folks!

It looks like Bayern are doing it again.
Going around the German league and buying the best players from the league, sort of what Chavski are doing in England. Except this time Bayern are looking abroad and have brought in Toni, who i think will do well.

  8. Bayern finally got off their duffs and smelled the roses. The purchase of Ribery especially will add imagination and pace to their slow and tranquil approach. My only concerns regarding Toni and Klose is that in many ways they are clones of each other and that generally means they will rarely be on the pitch together. Their respective age also concerns me. It makes more sense to buy young talented strikers than guys whose best years are clearly behind them. Neither Klose nor Toni come off a great year. Add to the mix the need to play Podolski in order to help his maturation as well as his confidence, and you have three international class strikers vying for one or two positions depending on the formation used. 4-3-3 is out as neither Toni or Klose are comfortable wide of the box. I will say this though, both are far better upgrades to Pizarro and especially Makaay who spends 80% of the season sleeping and then gets around 15 goals in 5 or 6 games. What about the other 25 or 30 matches where he never showed up? Bayern have done well and will easily walk away with the UEFA Cup and the Bundesliga. They also have a shot at the Champions League next season provided their two strikers don’t retire to accept their old age pensions.

  9. An interesting note :

What do Luca Toni, Klose, Ze Roberto and Philip Lahm have in common?

All play for Bayern Munich? yeah…
All were part of the All Star Team of the WC-06.
    Interesting and sumptuous indeed!

    :)

  10. Zé Roberto was in the all star team? Im sure there were better players than him….was he really?

United? Do you mean Rochdale or Southend?

  12. The Beatles wrote the never to be forgotten “Money can’t buy you love” and it won’t come as a surprise that I (a Nuremberg fan) don’t intend to suddenly fall in love with the Bauern as a result of their new signings.

I won’t fall in awe either. It’s an all or nothing response to being humiliated by their neighbours Nuremberg (and a few others too) this year and it’s going to put real pressure on the squad to succeed from day one.

Having said that, they should do well this year - with this squad they cannot fail - but they may well have a weakness in front of the back four as they offer no real replacement for Hargreaves.

My tip: Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Bremen and Schalke will give them a good run for their money!

ze roberto was immense in the world cup. He was all over the place making last ditch tackles, scoring goals, and providing the engine in the middle of the field for brazil.

as for jansen and schlaudraff, i think they were stupid to sign with bayern. Lahm is arguably the best left back in the world, so he should prove pretty hard to displace.. Similarly, with bayern’s embarassment of riches up front schlaudraff doesn’t look like he’ll get much of a shot next season. They both should have gone somewhere where they’d start and continue to develop as players.

  14. ribery is the biggest name (he is starr)

  15. Ribery looks like a dead dog he’ll scare all of the other opponets with kahn!! lmao

  16. So much for that - Makaay just got send back to Holland. They’re still well situated though.

  17. glad they aint in the champions league next season :D
