UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal 2nd Leg
Old Trafford – Manchester, England
7 April 2010 – 19:45 GMT

Manchester United need to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich if they want to reach the semifinals.

Manchester United v Bayern Munich Preview

The first leg was a reverse result of the 1999 final as Bayern Munich scored two second half goals to win 2-1. The second leg will head to Old Trafford where Manchester United have very good record. The Red Devils will be without Rooney who suffered an ankle injury in the first leg. Bayern, who were without several players, will not be at close to full strength for the second leg.

The midfielder of Manchester United struggled in the first match and will need to step it up. Veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are nearing the end of their careers but are still capable. The midfield can’t do it alone and will need striker Dimitar Berbatov to convert chances. His time at Man U has had mixed reviews from fans. He’s scored 12 goals in all competitions but hasn’t scored in the Champions League this season.

Reports out of England stated that Wayne Rooney has a 40 percent chance to play in the match but it seems unlikely. Even if he is able to play, he could very easily re-injure his ankle. Another injury could have him out for the rest of the EPL season or even longer. Officially, Sir Alex Ferguson is saying he is scheduled to return for the Manchester derby.

This is one of Bayern’s best chances to reach the semifinals with Manchester United not at full strength. Can they get a draw or win at Old Trafford? It’s a tough match to predict and almost any result wouldn’t be shocking. With this being said, Manchester United seem to find a way at Old Trafford when they need to get a victory. Who knows, maybe Rooney will make a second half appearance and lead the way.

Manchester United v Bayern Munich Prediction

Manchester United will win the match 2-0 and advance 3-2 on aggregate.
