La Liga champions Barcelona are plotting a sensational move for Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil in the summer, according to reports from Spanish newspaper AS.

Arsenal made a club record free transfer, around €42m in the summer of 2013 to sign Ozil from Real Madrid. Spanish paper AS reports that Madrid have the first refusal within 48 hours for Ozil, or Los Blancos would be entitled to receive 33% of the transfer, for a deal around €50m.

Arsenal are interested in three Barcelona players – Munir, Sandro and Arda Turan – and may want them to be included as a part of the deal, if it ever materialize.

Roberto Fernandez, Barcelona’s technical secretary, has explored the option of how to make this wish into a reality, but the Catalan giants are worried by the ‘anti-panic clauses’ Real Madrid have inserted into the contract at the time of transfer.

The report says Ozil is crazy is return to Spain. Barcelona’s style of football, and playing with the likes of Messi, Neymar and Suarez appeals to him. However, from Barcelona’s point of view, the deal is complicated.

It is a ridiculous report to be honest. It says Madrid had anticipated the threat from Barcelona, hence they inserted a protection clause at the time of transfer. Now, why would Madrid be worried of Barcelona at a time when all their attentions were to get a deal done with Arsenal right at the eleventh hour of the summer transfer window in 2013? It was a record move for Arsenal, and the protection clause doesn’t make enough sense.

AS claim that Real Madrid have the first refusal for the player for 48 hours. In addition, they would receive a 33% of transfer fee should Arsenal sell Ozil for more than €50m.

Barcelona can avoid the price though by selling Sandro, Munir and Turan – three players Arsenal are very interested in signing. Confused? So am I.
