Barcelona to spend €70m & still profit from Manchester United’s indecisiveness

Yesterday it was confirmed by FIFA that Barcelona won’t be allowed to sign any players in the next two transfer windows, although the Catalan club are likely to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to change the verdict.

Marco Reus Barcelona to spend €70m & still profit from Manchester Uniteds indecisiveness

Barcelona have splashed money this summer to sign top players like Luis Suarez, Thomas Vermaelen, Ivan Rakitic et al, but they may need to delve into the transfer market again. There is a genuine possibility that FIFA may not change their decision and in such a scenario, Barcelona will be the worst sufferer.

According to reports from Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona will attempt to land at least two of their major targets – Juan Cuadrado and Marco Reus.

German giants Borussia Dortmund want to sell Reus to Barca in order to avoid losing him to rivals Bayern Munich but Catalan press fears that the player already has a deal with the Bundesliga champions.

There is however hope that Barcelona might sign Juan Cuadrado before the transfer window closes. Sport reckons Fiorentina might be willing to sell him to Barca for €35m now in order to ensure profit.

Any idea what’s the common denominator here? Yes, rightly guessed: Manchester United.

If the reports are to be believed, Manchester United have already agreed a personal deal for Cuadrado but it is their indecisiveness (point the gun towards CEO) that could see them miss out on such a talented young footballer.

Likewise, Reus is a world class footballer and Manchester United had been targeting him since last year. The Times journalist James Ducker claimed last year that United were planning to sign Reus and could involve Kagawa as a part of the deal.

The interest seems fading away with recent reports suggested that Reus had rejected an offer from United. Reus has rejected contract extension at Dortmund as a result of which, he will now able to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side for €35m, his release clause, that can be trigged from 2015.

Thus, Barcelona can land €70m rated world class players (still they can make a profit) right under the nose of Manchester United. Good job, Mr Woodward!

  1. Man Utd could look for better players elsewhere outside Europe before te transfer window closes else the club will be in a fix thereby making Van Gaal’s efforts to uplift the dealing club meaningless. We have only thirteen days to go before the end transfers. Ed Woodward should be aware that the fans are becoming increasingly restless. Management need reassure the fans of more signings before the transfer window closes.

  2. I think this article sums up the way United have dithered this transfer window. Seems to me that Woodward and united want players on the cheap and are not willing to go the extra couple of million to secure the likes of Vida, Cuardrado etc. Just you watch Ed and see how its done if Barca decide to sign players in the short time left before the transfer window closes. I think its about time United took responsibility for signing players out of Woodwards hands and employ someone who can get the job done.

    • I don’t. I think this article makes lots of assumptions as to what goes on at Old Trafford behind closed doors without having even the slightest clue what Uniteds transfer plans and targets were. I mean the amount ‘massive blows’ we have apparently sustained in the transfer market being the case in point. If we were genuinely linked to all these players we would have a squad containing 100 players

    • I think I could do a much better job than Woodward at a cheaper pay. I really cant bother with these drawn out tranfer. It really piss me off when people start dissing my team. Lets go Manu

  3. i have always said ED is the idiot not MOYES, he brags about the money he has to spend, idon’t know when he will decide to spend

  4. Manchester United’s Ed- Woodward is not serious in the procurement of the type of players Van Gaal wants in his fight to rebuild the club from the ashes its now finding itself. Van Gaal has presented his list of players needed during the transfer window, but what is Ed doing up til now unable to finance the deal? Look at all of the players lined up, ready to append their signatures as players of the great club. If anything should get bad for MANUTD this season, please let us don’t cast the blame on LVG but Ed Woodward.

  5. Am disgusted in the Woodward is handling transfer matters at Manutd, he’s slugish, slow and weak.Mr if you can not handle please nobody is forcing you to do the Job, just pack your bags and get out

  6. I’m really hoping that barca could quickly do the signing of the very two good players Marco Reus n Juan Caudrado immidiately than ever…Yeah coz they have no much time left because of the ban rejected by Fifa…I also think sporting director Andonio Zaburrieta should quickly go for some money from barca president Bartomeu to buy both Reus n Caudrado from any other team…
