Barcelona agree deal to sign Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign the highly talented French defender Samuel Umtiti.

The 22 year old centre back was a target for Chelsea as well.

According to L’Equipe, the Spanish champions will pay Lyon a fee of around 30 million Euros for the defender and Umtiti will sign a five year contract with Barcelona once the Euros are over.

Both clubs have been in negotiations for the last three weeks according to L’Equipe’s report and a conclusion has been reached now.

Umtiti is one of the best young centre backs in Europe right now and would be a tremendous addition to Luis Enrique’s side. The Frenchman could be a long term replacement for Mascherano.

Lyon have signed Nkoulou from Marseille as a replacement for Umtiti.

Barcelona have also been linked with the Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin after Dani Alves completed his move to Juventus.

It seems that Luis Enrique is looking to build a defence for the future alongside the experienced Gerard Pique.
