Soccerlens Awards Archive for December, 2008

And the winners are…

The Soccerlens Awards recognize excellence in football blogging. After the great success of the 2007 edition, SL readers and editors gathered again to choose among 20 different awards categories and crown the best out of over a hundred quality football sites.

Yes people, YOU voted (over 16,000 times) for your favorite blogs. The Soccerlens Awards provides you, the public, with the opportunity to give props to those who have kept you informed, amused, and entertained for the past year. The writers who have made you laugh, those who have made you cry, and all those kickass blogs of footy goodness that no matter how hard your boss screams, you just can’t keep away from at work.

For all our displeasure at watching C-Ron dive, some of us are not above cheating as long as they can get away with it. I’ve always been quite angry at certain awards sites for making us jump through so many hoops to place our votes but now I understand why – if you trust people, a minority of them will violate that trust and take advantage of everyone else and the system.

Like PremiershipTalk, some readers at NUFCBlog decided to vote multiple times and then brag about it in the comments thread at the site as well. Not the smartest, I grant you that, and and as a result of their actions we had to disqualify NUFCBlog from the Readers’ Choice section of the Blog Community award.

It’s not something I enjoyed doing because I love what Ed has done at NUFCBlog, he’s an inspiration to all bloggers and it would have been great to seem him win the award. Because of the actions of some idiots (and on our part, because we trusted voters too much), he won’t.

Hopefully you’ll get ‘em next year Ed.

There has been a change in one of the awards – Premiership Talk has been dropped from the Best British Blog category and has been replaced with Republik Of Mancunia.

This is NOT anything personal against Brian or Premiership Talk – however there is irrefutable evidence that some of his friends from college have been vote rigging (i.e. repeat voting) and we’re not going to allow cheating, intentional or unintentional. Premiership Talk is still in contention for it’s three other award categories.

This was a difficult decision to make but one that was instantly clear once I saw the traffic logs and voting patterns. Readers, Blog owners and friends of blog owners, please refrain from cheating, you can most likely win without it.
