Arsenal/Wenger are misguided; there’s no conspiracy

Written by Ahmed Bilal. Tagged: Arsenal

Arsenal (Wenger, mostly) are really, really pissed at the linesman who said that Adebayour had punched someone.

A case of mistaken identity (Ade for Eboue) or just plain mistake, the fact is that the FA will not back down from Ade’s red card, especially after the scene Ade made when he got the card. For the FA, disrespect is just as good a reason as punching someone to get a red card.

Is the linesman lying? Mistaken, probably, because afterwards everyone saw the videos from different angles and could tell that Ade didn’t punch anyone (if you think he did, please link to the video in the comments). Wenger’s outburst is as regrettable as is the FA’s reaction, but can we please let this shit go? NO ONE is plotting against Arsenal, the whole conspiracy theory is a bit too much, methinks.

In my view blaming the FA and the refs and the linesmen with participating in a conspiracy against Arsenal (why does this ‘us vs them’ theme always come out of Arsenal?) is giving them far more credit than they deserve. The simple, and unfortunate answer, is stupidity.

  1. The issue is that the FA are upholding the Ade card, adding the Eboue ban and adding another charge for Ade’s outburst.

Fat Frank has now come out and sided with Wenger by stating that the linesman was indeed wrong and he was never punched by anyone.

So the FA have a dilema, they will need to review their charges.

  2. Did you see the match last night?

How do you explain the fouls per yellow card then?

BTW if you state that you saw something, and in fact you did not, then you are a liar my friend…

  3. All he’s trying to do is get the correct response from the linesman…hold your hands up and admit it was a case of mistaken identity. Unfortunately we all know what will happen, the FA will never admit to getting anything wrong and the player will be suspeneded, the manager fined. Ridiculous!!

I think you need to look at the table below.
You don’t see a problem here? (Or even in last night’s statistics?).

    (Thanks to GoodPlaya’s excellent blog).

Premiership fouls, yellows and fouls per yellow

    Arsenal 240 44 5.45
    Villa 362 33 10.96
    Blackburn 382 61 6.26
    Bolton 382 59 6.47
    Charlton 318 44 7.22
    Chelsea 312 43 7.25
    Everton 402 48 8.37
    Fulham 367 47 7.80
    Liverpool 327 29 11.27
    Manchester City 381 40 9.52
    Man United 307 40 7.67
    Middelesbrough 365 49 7.44
    Newcastle 346 56 6.17
    Portsmouth 366 37 9.89

    Watford 397 36 11.02
    West Ham 382 59 6.47
    Wigan 352 52 6.76

  5. Didier Drogba

Reignites the conflict by reaching behind Hoyte to slap Fabregas, who is arguing with Andrei Shevchenko, on the back of the head. He then grabs the Spaniard by the neck, but is pulled away by Adebayor as Mourinho steps in to calm Fabregas.

    * Michael Essien

Appears to cuff Denilson on the face as the pair grapple

Where are their FA charges? Lost in the post no doubt…

  6. Shut up you idiot. The linesman lied, no mistake, he blatantly lied. The FA have backed that lie with no evidence. Lampard has today himself admitted Adebayor did not touch him. The FA could have done the decent thing & revoked the red card, they chose instead to back a liar!! Any club in the world would challenge the integrity of an organisation who done that. As for the ‘us v them’ you will find every club especially chelski do that. Chelski have used it to gain a siege mentality for the past two years claiming everyone is against them.

  7. Adebayor was wrongly charged for punching Lampard! Its in the official match report. Granted the linesman did not have a proper view -fair enough. But then did Manu punch Lampard? If he did not -lets have the record corrected. It is not about conspiracy stories its about truthfulness. And Lampard has admitted that he was never punched. We expect the linesman to own up and admit his mistake-simple!

  8. One other thing, why weren’t Fabregas and Lampard censured for their parts in exacerbating the situation? Why it be fair to say Fabregas is lucky that he grappled with a high-profile England international and not one of those nasty foreign types…?

  9. In response to your question “why does this ‘us vs them’ theme always come out of Arsenal?” I think the answer lies in the question. Indeed, why does this always come from Arsenal? The foul to yellow card ratio speaks for itself and the fact that up 20 people were involved in the “brawl” (ha! “brawl”) but Arsenal seem to be getting punished more is another undeniable fact which points in the direction of imbalance as far as disciplining Arsenal are concerned. Nothing can shake my gut feeling that this is a continuation of an attack on Arsenal for seeming to be an un-British team and SKY sports are the champions of the cause to make Arsenal the enemy’s of the rest of the league. I’m obviously bitter but when you consider the latest shambolic “refereeing? display from Graham Poll last night to rob us of an FA cup place last night on top of the latest goings-on, something stinks!!

  10. Let’s get one thing straight, life is never fair. Arsenal may have their fair share of penalties turned down, but so have other clubs. The fact of the matter is that, Wenger just bitches and point at everything else when he and his players are to blame for the result at hand. Don’t blame the linesman for not being able to put the ball at the back of the net, blame your idealogy and the fact you won’t play it ugly to get the right results. One man’s justice is another’s injustice; one man’s beauty another’s ugliness; one man’s wisdom another’s folly.

There is not one person outside of Arsenal that is not tired of Wenger’s banters. Blackburn did what they had to do get the required result, and to say they didn’t deserve it is like saying those people who pinched every penny and worked their asses off didn’t deserve their millions.

A word of advice - If a man meets with injustice, it is not required that he shall not be roused to meet it; but if he is angry after he has had time to think upon it, that is sinful. The flame is not wring, but the coals are.
    George Orwell

  11. Have you even been following arsenal all season ?
It as clear as day that there is a hidden agenda against us, from the FA to the media.
Look at the statistics provided, they do not lie!
In fact they paint a pretty ugly picture.
And there is no doubt that it is because of all Arsenals foreign players. Why else would everyone be against us?!
We play the prettiest football and we are the team that everyone around the world loves to watch. This should be seen as an honour for the Premier League. They should be happy that they have a team that is as well liked as Barcelona.
Instead people are whining on about us not being a british team!

Anyways all Arsenal fans should stand together and fight this aggression from the FA and the british media.

  12. 3 nailed on blatant penalties for arsenal in the 2 games against Blackburn. I think you will find Blackburn didn’t do what they had to, the referee done it for them!!

I just have this to say:
Arsenal plays the most beautiful game of football in England and that is all that matters for me, (Win or Lose).
Everybody knows that this is the football for the future.
The next 3-4 years will be all Arsenal, you just wait and see…
And for those who think Adebayor should be punished for the way he had to be dragged out of the pitch, just think of this:
You are 1-2 behind in a Carling Cup Final, a brawl is beginning and you get in there to pull players away from each other, and then you get a red card cause’ the linesman said you punched someone. I think you too would be frustrated, (And remember that he had just come on to try to help his team to come back in the game). I think the FA should think about all the facts and let the ban against Blackburn be enough punishment for Adebayor.

“For the FA, disrespect is just as good a reason as punching someone to get a red card.”

So why can Rooney scream obscenities in a ref’s face and get away without even a card?

    He plays for England.

Are the FA and it’s officials biased, or just racist?

  15. Geoff, suck it up and just let it go. I can remember Arsenal’s run towards their unbeaten season. Remember how Arsenal got away with murder at Old Trafford and even more so at Fratton Park when the unbeaten run should have snapped long before it actually did. And the fact that Rio’s ban meant that they had no real challenge during the run-in?

You should really look at the team and say that Arsenal should play it ugly at times and just stick that ball at the back of the net. I remember Arsenal playing ugly football during 2005 fa Cup win. So, why can’t they do it now? If they could just score, would there be a need to rely on penalties? Penalties are wild cards in football and should be treated as such.

besides, tell me seriously that you think Arsenal FC wasn’t at fault for the incident? If toure didn’t respond in such a manner, would there be any incident? If Fabregas didn’t get involved in the manner he had, would a fight break out? This is every bit the same as prawn sandwiches incident and the Old Trafford melee. You must accept some blame for your part and Wenger must really learn to control his band of ego-maniac savages.

  16. Personally, i think the “us v them” mentality is used by most of the top flight managers. I know Fergie uses it to create a siege mentality at United, and i know Mourinho has used it at the Bridge. It’s not a new thing at all, and it doesn’t start or stop with Arsenal.

The only difference is that Wenger and Arsenal look more foolish using that tactic than Fergie or Mourinho does when they use it. I also think the effect of the us v them tactic has worked better for United and Chelsea than it has with Arsenal.

There is also no hidden agenda with the FA. Unfortunately, until robots are created to take the place of these stupid humans in control of the country, we’re just going to have to put up with the human effect! People are going to make mistakes, they’re not going to be able to please everyone. Every club at some time has felt hard done by with regards to the FA - but hey, that’s life and that’s football. We’re not going to like some of the decisions made, but we have to get on with it.

It’s all good and well pointing at the officials for not getting the big decisions correct, but i’d love to see how all these so called “experts” would get on in a top premiership match making split second decisions. Maybe the ref didn’t give the penalties, but Blackburn did exactly what they ad to do to win the game - they put the ball in the back of the net more times than Arsenal did.

  17. March 1, 2007Baldfatlimey

Sorry, sorry - what are we all going on about? The FA never said he punched Lampard, rather he aimed a punch at Lampard. So dont scream over what wasnt said, written, indicated or denied, lied, panicked over. Lost, gone, move on to the next game. Oh - lost that one too.

  18. Arsenal are the most fouled against team in the EPL.

Arsenal have committed the least number of fouls of any team in the EPL.

Arsenal have the worst ration of fouls to yellow cards in the EPL.

It happens every single game I watch, and I watch every single one of Arsenal’s games.

Opposition players “get spoken to”, Arsenal players get cards. It happened in the BBurn game, it happened on Sunday, it’s been happening all season.

The simple fact of the matter is that the so-called “authorities” running football in the UK are liars and cheats, it’s as clear as day.

Will they admit they’re in the wrong? Will they stand up like men and admit they should have done differently? Will they have the guts to change their hideously exposed wrongful action?

Not even close, they’ll try and bully Wenger and try and beat him down so he won’t show them up next time for the dishonest pieces of scum that they are.

The pathetic mullets “running” the game are only worthy of derision and scorn, they have zero credibility and no balls whatsoever.

  19. I believe the FA have just come up with this pearler:

“Questioning the integrity of a match official and accusing them of lying is a very serious claim to make as it questions the whole integrity of the game,” an FA spokesman said.

“We also reject any accusations of bias or dishonesty within our disciplinary system. We will be asking Arsene Wenger to explain these comments.”

It’s pretty easy you cretinous scum, you’re a bunch of liars and cheats, and you wouldn’t be capable of honesty if your lives depended on it.

Yes, the game’s “integrity” IS in question, that’s PRECISELY the f%^&g point actually, and guess WHY it’s “integrity” is in question, because you, the lying, cheating, dishonest FA, have led the game into disrepute by your refusal to be honest and fair.

  20. GoonerDK I have to disagree with you on your statement that people all around love to watch arsenal play pretty football. Sure you play pretty football but it doesnt always win you games and goals and that frustrates people.
Manchester United on the other hand play a more balanced style of football which is nice to watch but still very effective in winning games!!!

Anyways yes I have to agree the FA could have done the honorable thing and reduced adebayors red to a yellow but no they still back the linesman.

They are ruining their reputation and integrity as the governing body of soccer pardon me I mean football in England!!!

  21. Arsenal actually have had less yellow cards then most premiership teams. They also have a lot less fouls committed than every other team. They’ve committed 240 fouls while every other single team has committed between 300 and 400 fouls. Thats the only reason why their ratio of yellow cards to fouls is so low. How have they managed to commit such an amazingly low number of fouls compared to the rest of the premiership? Is it because they’re by far the fairest and cleanest team out there or is it because the refs are very lenient with them as a direct result of Arsene Wenger’s rantings and ravings about how his team is treated so badly. Arsenal also have more fouls committed against them than any other team. Is this because every other team is more aggressive when playing Arsenal or is it once again because the referees are being kind to Arsenal. Arsenal getting hard done by? Conspiracy theories? Get over it.

  22. Those statistics say crap… So what if arsenal have made the least fouls? It dosen’t say how bad those fouls were… That’s more significant.
