Former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has been linked with a move away from Naples this summer. The Argentine is thought to be keen on a move after the Italian outfit failed to qualify for the Champions league.

Although Napoli have not ruled out the possibility of a sale, the Italian outfit are keen to hold on to their prized asset until January, to see if they can fight their way back into the Champions league places.

The report states that Wenger was keen on the Argentine striker and was prepared to make his move. However, Napoli’s determination meant that Arsenal were forced to look elsewhere.

Fichajes have also claimed that Arsenal looked at PSG forward, Edinson Cavani as an alternative. However, considering Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ age and decline in form, the French outfit are unwilling to let go of the Uruguayan forward.

Arsenal are now prepared to wait till January to land Gonzalo Higuain.

The Londoners are keen to mount a serious title challenge this season and Wenger knows the importance of signing a goalscorer. Despite the likes of Giroud, Walcott, Welbeck and Alexis at his disposal, Wenger is desperate for a seasoned goalscorer.

Higuain is a proven scorer at every level (club and international) and would be a tremendous signing for Arsenal, if they can pull it off next year.
