Arsenal v Liverpool v Chelsea v Manchester United - Away Records Against Each Other

Rafael Benitez

On Saturday, 5 April, Arsenal play at home to Liverpool in the second of their three fixtures against each other in the space of seven days.

It will be Rafael Benítez’s 12th Premier League visit to one of the big four and he has yet to win. Benítez has lost all three matches at Arsenal and all four at Manchester United. Liverpool have failed to score in their four Premier League visits to Chelsea since Benítez took charge in the summer of 2004.

Liverpool’s first point at Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United under Benítez’s management came from a 0-0 draw at Chelsea in February.

Two of Liverpool’s three goals on other big four grounds under Benítez were scored at Arsenal. In May 2005, Steven Gerrard scored in a 3-1 defeat and Luís García scored as Liverpool lost 2-1 in March 2006.

  1. on the other hand , he’s one of most successful:

    1. mourihno: 2 barclays, 1 fa, 2 carling, 1 shield(not sure about this one)

    2. benitez: 1. champions, 1 lost final( hey that’s worth -what- 6 carling cups in terms of reputation n money), 1 fa cup, 1 shield( ok,ok, its crap but…), 1 international cup final( in terms of fanbase..well more argentines n brazilians will support us… more money), 1 lost carling cup( emm, that’s really nothing but just 2 throw it i the eq)

    3. ferguson: 1 barclays, 1 fa, 1 carling, 1 shield

    4. wenger: 1 fa cup again manu…er cl final(LOST)… that’s all is it not? ( hey i really luved when cristiano cried- a man can cry 4 this ???? well best player in the world he may be but i wont accept him in liverpool)

  2. so its no use manipulating stistics.. one off match do not reflect a team… if it was so- well derby did double on newcastle did they not…? so magpies should be going down… n mancity beat manutd repeatedly… they should be champions should they not…?????/

n if u eq success with net money ( spent- money regained) well u’ll find that that benitez is FIRST, wenger is SEcond, n guess who’s last… that’s right… ferguson ( well in this 4-man table). in actual table ferguson is 5th, morinho 4th, (everton manager-forgot his name) 3rd. last( avram grant- well that may change if he brings some silverware this season)

  3. Ha ha ha. Check out this Liverpool fan trying to argue that Benitez is one of the more successful managers compared to Ferguson or Mourinho. The fact that you have no premier leagues which most of your fans rate above all others is the most telling statistic. The fact that you are arguing that lost finals and one international cup final count as “success” shows that you are pretty desperate.

  4. actually…

    Champions league: 9.0 points
    Barclays : 7.0 pts
    Fa : 5.5 pts
    carling : 2.0 pts.
    International cup: 4.0 pts

    Champions league final: 6.0 pts
    Fa final: 3.5 pts
    Carling final : 0.5 pts
International cup Final: 4.0 pts ( the money n reputation)

This is according to a survey I’ve conducted in school( 500 students ) , in tuitions ( 30x 5 equal 150 students). I know it is much of a bother but i knew some stu..d da.. manutd fan will slate me. Test conducted last year. 40 percent manutd fans, 35 percent utd fan, 5 percent arsenal fan, 10 percent real madrid fan, 2 percent chelsea fan…3 percent not really interested in football. n o, its 2 small. Test was in mcq form ( estimate the silverware(money, reputation, scorelines, etc..) 0-10) .

There was a normal distribution for all n midvalue correct to 0.5 pts taken. Except for carling cup.. it was very strange shape.. well, i wont bother describing it. but i think its a fair evaluation.. except for carling cup… would have given it 2.0 personally…

  5. nah joking… 0.5 pts to win it, 0.0 to lose it.

  6. 2.0 when we beat manutd 2 it- was that in 2002?

  7. oops some errors : its 35 percent lfc fan in comment 4.

  8. what a dumbass
you dont remember how many premierships wenger won?
    rofl
arsenal has a better team then liverpool, and has since wenger took over
in fact, liverpool has looked consistently weak the past 2 decades compared wtih man utd and arsenal and even chelski
dunno wht yu’r trying to arguing, a fluke win over AC in the cl getting to the finals by pure luck and all pool fans are jumping for joy

  9. I’m sorry but the fact that losing a champions league final is rated as worth only half a carling cup less than winning the premiership shows how moronic the results of your survey are. The facts are that when it comes to the premiership, and the strength of a team is truly taken into account, time and time again Liverpool fall short. Ask Gerrard if he rates losing the champions league final as an almost consolation to coming fourth in the league and you have the true value of your survey.

Anyway all your points system proves is that Benitez is successful in cup competitions.

If your survey attempted to be remotely reflective of success you would need to assign points for second, third and fourth places in the premiership (as these also represent success, money and reputation) given that you are awarding points for gaining runners up spot in cups.

  10. yo yo…its the last 4 years.. is it not….????

  11. Dude, whatever be your stats, You’ll have no BPL titles and all the above stats are from there. Just zip it of you can’t accept the fact that Rafa hasn’t done well against the remaning of the top 4 teams… Any ‘Pool fan would admit that too.

  12. since benitez, morinho came… i was actually wanting to prove how much ferguson was not good back then… but lo n behold he wins the barclays cup…

wenger is one of the best … but not in the 4 last years as he was constructing a team… n i did the league ranking pointings…. but it was disproportionate- my friends n i found that rank 1 to 4 was very murky as fans tend 2 disregard 2nd, 3rd n 4th in the league…. we noticed that utd fans caused 3rd place 2 drop 2 5.5( probably associating it liverpool)… while 4th place was @ 6.0…!!!!!

  13. Anyways lets put in the real achievements shall we:
Liverpool: 1 CL+ 1 CL Final, FA Cup,
Not counted: 1 charity sheild, 1 international Cup (wtf is that??? if it is the World Club Championships then sorry you’ll did not win it)

Manchester United: 2 BPL titles + 2 runner up places + 1 FA Cup finals

the rest follows.. Point being Rafa has done well only in CUP COMPETITIONS… Tom is absolutely correct.

  14. Utsav- u r right … rafa has not done well against the top 4 away…but the stats r true… because we did beat chelsea twice 2 the finals of cl, beat manutd n chelsea to win fa, but on other extremes… getting beaten by barnsley, losing 6-3, 3-1 2 arsenal…

  15. n utd won just 1 league title since rafa came… i told u i wanted to have reliable stats that fergie was bad but he chose that season 2 win the league again…

  16. hey ustav i did place international FINAL- that means we lost it… does it not

  17. Haha, fantastic article !! I bow to Ahmed, the great scouse slayer ..

  18. did you know that back in 99, after United’s treble, they were talking of a Big 3? Yep, United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool were lumped alongside other pretenders such as Leeds and Aston Villa.

Domestically, it’s still a Big 3. Wenger’s had a bit of a bum deal in the above comparison because Arsenal played poorly (by their standards) for the last two seasons while United and Chelsea were really turning it on.

  19. April 5, 2008davis bosire (Botsware)

Hi dudes, As chelsea look to play manu this 26th aconfirmaton will be made to them that we stiil are the blues. A point of confirmation that manu is fogeting is dat 4 the last four seasons they have not won against us. I cant mind them coz pple need to update there cv’s wen they win aganist there strongholds(our away game2008 manu 2 vs chel ). with or without Jose M we the blues must shine. 4 arsenal bye bye 4 yet another trophyless season n do something coz liverpool will bang u at anfield.

  20. Why do you add Avram Grant to the Chelsea manager’s list? That is so unfair. AG is not even considered a coach by Chelsea fans. We all know Clark and Cate do all the major work, and AG’s simply the face of the club.

If you’re in the mood to place AG alongside Mourinho (which is poor), then add the predecessor(s) of Rafa to Liverpool’s list too. Why not do that? Not to mention JM was always winning against top3/4 managers during his tenure.

  21. Well, at least rafa’s improved his record :)
