Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Liverpool in pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to reports in Italy.

After impressing last season heavily on loan at Inter Milan, he recently joined the Serie A side on a permanent deal. However, Inter could still be willing to sell him for a fee in the region of £25m.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Croatian international while Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to bring him to the Emirates as well.

The 23-year-old has caught the attention with some distinguished performances in Serie A last season and showed glimpses of his quality for his national team during the Euro Championships in France.

Brozovic is a strong midfielder whose main strength lies in his adaptability. He can play as a deep-lying midfielder / defensive midfielder and equally comfortable as a box-to-box player.

A technically smart player he should, in theory, fit in well at the Emirates. Arsenal are choc-a-bloc with talented midfielders in the squad but Wenger would still be willing to sign a flexible midfielder like Brozovic. He has the physicality to cope in the English Premier League. Having said that, signing a midfielder should be Wenger’s least priority at the moment and the money could be properly used elsewhere.

Brozovic will be a good signing for Liverpool as well. With Joe Allen off to Stoke City and Lucas Leiva’s future still hangs in the balance, he would be a fine addition to the squad that is less stocked with midfield options. He will get a regular game time at Anfield and the player should consider making a move to Merseyside if Liverpool meet his asking price.
