Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger surprised everyone by landing Mesut Ozil on the transfer deadline day from Real Madrid, for a club record transfer fee. However, the spending spree probably won’t stop here as the Frenchman is targeting the emerging football power-house of Europe, Germany, to bring some of their exceptionally talented players to the Emirates.

Wenger is ready to make further incursions in the next transfer market, as according to reports from the Mirror, he has told his scouts to keep close tabs on long-term targets Ilkay Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund and Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen.

Defensive midfield is one of the areas that need strengthening for the Gunners, and even though Mathieu Flamini has been signed on a free transfer, Wenger is looking to add further quality in that department.

Arsenal already have a strong German contingent in their squad like Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Serge Gnabry, Gedion Zelalem, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Eisfeld, and therefore it doesn’t need any rocket science to understand why the emphasis is laid on picking up the top cherries from the German soil.

The Gunners are reportedly also interested in Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya. The 22-year-old is set to be a free agent next summer and Arsenal are looking to pounce on that opportunity to sign him.

Likewise, the Gunners are also looking to add a striker in the side, having failed to land so many top strikers (Higuain, Suarez, Benzema) in the summer, and could possibly add Romanian striker Ciprian Marica, who is a free agent at the moment.
