Arsenal target reveals offer from Chelsea

This summer Arsenal had been linked with a move for several top forwards including Mario Mandzukic. The 28-year-old striker had two great seasons with German champions Bayern Munich, where he scored 48 goals for the Bavarians, but left the club this summer following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

Pep Guardiola signed Lewandowski for free this summer from Borussia Dortmund, which inevitably had put a question mark on the future of the Croatian striker, and although Bayern were hesitant to sell him in the beginning, in the end he was transferred to La Liga champions Altetico Madrid.

Mandzukic is seen as an ideal replacement for Diego Costa who left the club in summer to join Chelsea. In an interview with Croatian magazine Sportske, Mandzukic reveals that he had offers from both Chelsea and Arsenal, but he refused to move to the Premier League, as he felt the league won’t suit his playing style.

“I had much better offer than Atletico” he said. “There were several offers from England, from Chelsea or Arsenal, but the style of play adopted by Premier League clubs do not suit me . I have also received offers from Italy or Russia, but in the end I think I made the right choice to join Atletico Madrid.”

Mandzukic has settled in nicely at his new club and has already scored 8 goals for the Rojiblancos. However, neither Chelsea nor Arsenal should feel bad about missing on him, as both Costa and Alexis Sanchez (summer signing from Barcelona) are firing all cylinders for the two Premier League giants at the moment.
