Porto striker Jackson Martinez might join Valencia in the summer
Porto striker Jackson Martinez might join Spanish side Valencia over Arsenal in the coming transfer window according to reports in Spain. Singaporean businessman and investor Peter Lim today completed the purchase of the Spanish club.
It is believed that Lim has already began talks with the Porto president and the Colombian striker might be on his way to the Mestalla after the already advanced negotiations.
Lim has vowed to clear off the huge debt for Valencia and has assured fans that teh club is on the right hands.
“Valencia’s fans can finally be finished with months of uncertainty. We will be able to implement our strategic plan and the club will soon be able to compete at the highest levels of European competition.”
We had earlier reported that Martinez would discuss his future post the World Cup where he will feature for Colombia in the showpiece event. The striker’s agent had earlier mentioned that his client would be available for less that €40m.
Arsenal have been long linked with the lethal 27 year old striker who has enjoyed a stunning season for Porto this campaign has featured in 41 appearances scoring 23 goals in the process. Serie A side Napoli are also interested in the Colombian while Roma are also keeping tabs on the player’s current situation.
Martinez himself made it clear that he is concentrated fully to shine in the World Cup claiming that he will asses his future after the tournament. The story was reported by Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
“I know nothing, or Valencia or any other club. Now I’m totally focused with the selection of Colombia and only want to think about it and in the World. I really like being in Porto. It’s a big club, although this has not been our best season. My head and my thoughts are now in the World Cup.”
