Arsenal plot second bid for Leicester left back Ben Chilwell

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City - Emirates FA Cup - Third Round - White Hart Lane

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is plotting a second bid for the highly talented Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.

The Gunners had a bid of £3.5 million rejected for the 19-year-old back in the summer and Wenger is ready to return with an improved offer this month.

Chilwell has attracted a lot of interest from several Premier League clubs and impressed for the Foxes during his first team appearance against Tottenham earlier this month. The young defender is expected to replace Kieran Gibbs at Arsenal.

Gibbs is angling for a move away from Arsenal due to the lack of first-team action and could be sold in the summer.

Although Claudio Ranieri has insisted that the 19-year-old is not for sale, there have been a few top-level meetings between the two clubs according to the reputed British outlet Telegraph.

Chilwell has been scouted frequently by the Arsenal scout, Steve Rowley, during Chilwell’s time on loan with Huddersfield Town as well as Leicester’s Under-21 games. The talented left-back is expected to succeed the ever-reliable Nacho Monreal in the long run.

With Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea interested in the player, Wenger is keen to avoid a bidding war and will push for a deal this month.

Chilwell has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract and is in talks with Leicester over a new contract.
