Arsenal Sign Mesut Ozil From Real Madrid
Arsenal have broken their transfer record on the final day of the transfer window, by signing Real Madrid superstar Mesut Ozil, who completed his medical in Munich and signed a five-year-deal with the Gunners.
The 24-year-old will become the North London club’s highest paid player, with wages of around £140,000-a-week being proposed and it could reach near £200K, by including the add-ons and other factors, after both the clubs agreed a £42.5 million deal for the German.
Ozil, who was also linked with a move to Manchester United has time and again reiterated this summer that he doesn’t want to move elsewhere, but it is understood that David Moyes has not identified him as a potential target, thus paving the way for the Gunners to prize him away.
The 24-year-old has played over a 100 games for Real Madrid since he moved to Bernabeu in 2010 from Werder Bremen. The arrival of Gareth Bale from Tottenham and Isco in the summer has ultimately forced him way out of the Spanish club.
Arsenal fans can rejoice now after enduring a dreadful summer where the club had failed to make the best use of £70 million transfer war-chest.
Critics can rage on whether he was actually needed or not, but there is no doubt that a signing like this will lift the mood in the entire dressing room. Ozil, undoubtedly, one of the best creative midfielders in the world will add an extra dimension to Arsenal’s game, which might propel them to challenge for the Premier League title as well.
