Arsenal set to make surprise move for David Marshall
Arsenal are plotting a surprise move for Cardiff City goal keeper David Marshall, who is also a reported target of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners are searching for a replacement of Lukasz Fabianski and have targeted the 29-year-old, who is valued at £15m.
Marshall has been one of the stand out performers for Cardiff this season and was named as Cardiff’s player of the year. He has recently signed a new contract and Cardiff will be looking to get as much money as possible for the Scotland international.
North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also lined up Marshall as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris, who could leave White Hart Lane this summer in search of Champions League football.
However, Spurs are hopeful of keeping Lloris, which gives Arsenal the edge to make a first move for Marshall, as Wenger wants to put pressure on first-choice Wojciech Szczesny and provide top-class cover.
According to reports from The Telegraph, Arsenal are willing to match Cardiff’s asking price, but the Gunners are hopeful of finding a compromised agreement. Wenger has also considered Reading’s Alex McCarthy as a possible option, but Marshall emerging out as a first-choice option for them.
