Arsenal plot £30m move for Real Madrid striker

Many believe that failing to sign a world class striker (both in summer and in January transfer window) was one of the reasons why Arsenal crumbled under pressure in the Premier League title race.

Last summer the Gunners had tried to sign Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez, but failed to land either of them. Arsenal were also interested in Karim Benzema but in the end they chose to sign his Real Madrid team mate Mesut Ozil instead.

However, this summer, the Gunners would move heaven and earth to land a world class striker, and according to The Telegraph, the North Londoners are plotting a move to sign their long term target Benzema.

The Gunners consider Benzema as an ideal signing and are aware that the 26-year-old France striker could be allowed to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Benzema has just only one year left on his contract leaving Madrid with a major decision to make as to whether renew his contract or sell him knowing they would command a fee in the region of £30m.

Yesterday Spanish newspaper El Confidencial reported Florentino Perez is looking to sign Luis Suarez. It remains to be seen, how serious are their interests in luring the Uruguayan, and should they succeed in signing him or any other top striker, it could pave way for Benzema to move elsewhere.

Arsene Wenger is also pursuing other strike options, including Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic, but has missed out on Josip Drmic, who has joined Bayer Leverkusen and would likely to miss out Diego Costa, who seems Chelsea-bound.

FA Cup Final Preview: Arsenal 'Cup villains' to stand up to underdogs Hull City

  1. Benzema is not the beast that Arsenal need. Cavani is a better choice to partner Giroud. Cavani is fast, agile and lethal to complement Giroud. Cavani is the marquee like Ozil that Arsenal must buy to compete with MC, Chelsea, Pool and Mu and even Everton and Spurs. This year the competition is tough and next year will be even tougher. Without at least 3 more marquee players, Arsenal may not be in the top 4 next year. This is the cruel fact that Arsenal must deal with and go out and buy the best.

  2. to me all arsenal nid is a sharp n two-legged player nt a playa like mamzukish dat is more of d head dan leg like giroud n carlos vela bezema is beta bt nt too fast n lack more of d positioning.

  3. as for me arsenal need sharp strike like karim benzema he be OK for arsenal next season

  4. Hehehe….. here we go again. Another waltzing summer where in the end AW will end up buying Carlos Vela and pubblicise him as a world class player and some other cheap and young player whom he would sometime in the the future turn into a world class player just like Carl Jenkinson, Johann Djourou and Francis Coquelin and Ju Yung Park… and on and on and on…. the fairy tale of this coach with a midas touch is ridiculously arrongant, in his other words all the other coaches are useless comapring to him. But 9 yrs is a long time for a team of this caliber to wait for a trophy. Even if Arsenal were to win the FA cup, it is only a consolation for the long wait. If we do not get rid of all the dead weight and get in some classy players with character then we are in for another long wait for the Chamoionship as the other teams which had been the 3 teams who have won the championships for the past years are now being joined by Liverpool and I will bet my very last dollar that they will not be sitting on their laurels but will be thinking of strengtening their teams even further. Let me add that Arsenal is the only team that after 16 yrs of champions league competition has not won that trophy…..
