Arsenal player wants to leave Emirates in January

Lukas Podolski

Lukas PodolskiArsenal forward Lukas Podolski has once again reiterated that he is unhappy at the Emirates.

The former Bayern Munich star joined the North London club from FC Koln in 2012. Since joining the Gunners, the attacker has seen his playing time restricted and has spent more time on the bench.

This season, Podolski has started only once for Arsenal, which came during their 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the Capital One Cup. The German international is now looking for options when the transfer window opens in January.

“I have assessed my position in the team and it has to change now. Let’s see what happens in the winter. The fact is that I’m not happy with it, that’s clear,” Podolski told the reporters.

Arsenal have two of their recognised strikers Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo on the treatment table. Despite having summer signing Danny Welbeck as the only player up front, Podolski was not preferred or included to lead the Gunners’ strike force.

Arsene Wenger could have handed the German forward a place in the starting lineup or even a call from the bench as he made two substitute’s appearance from the bench. Despite publicly expressed his desire to leave the Premier League outfit, Arsenal manager remains relaxed over Podolski’s comments.

The Frenchman says the player is still included in his plans at the Emirates for this season.

“It is quite simple, there is no transfer market at the moment. When there is no transfer market, you are all on board – or not on board. It is like that,” Wenger said.

“This is a job where you can only be successful if you’re fully committed. You cannot be half in and half out, so all this transfer speculation is not considered at all. We are all on board to get results, and Podolski will be part of that.”
