Arsenal have offered Napoli just under £1 million to take Eduardo Vargas on loan for the rest of the season.

Arsenal linked with £1 million loan deal

The Corriere dello Sport in Italy is reporting that Arsenal have been in contact with the Italian giants over the striker and are prepared to pay up to £1 million to secure Vargas on a six month deal until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old Chilean is reportedly struggling to settle into life at his new club after signing for them this time last year. He has experience at international level having played 15 times for his country but scoring only two goals.

If the move comes off then it could be the biggest sign yet that Theo Walcott is about to leave the club considering the attacking fire power they already possess.

Sao Paolo from Brazil have also been linked with the player and could be a stronger choice when considering Arsene Wenger’s transfer history.

Wenger rarely spends large sums of money in the transfer market, especially in January. So the fact Arsenal have been linked with spending so much cash on a short term loan deal is very difficult to believe.

However, Marouane Chamakh has just been sent on loan to West Ham by the Gunners and with Gervinho due to take part in the African Cup of Nations, the side will need cover.

A trio of Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott is still a very strong attacking force but Wenger will be left with few options and no ability to rotate if one of those three players picks up an injury.

There are several other strikers around Europe that Arsenal could target on a loan deal which would mean a simple wage agreement between the club and the parent club with no fee involved.
