Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has announced that long-serving manager Arsene Wenger is to sign a contract extension at the club, with a full announcement to be made ‘at the right time’.

Gazidis broke the news during a press conference to announce Arsenal’s big-money sponsorship deal with Puma, with Wenger now poised to extend his 17-year stay in North London,

Wenger, who has failed to win a major trophy for the last eight years, was seemingly headed towards a summer exit, with his contract set to expire in July.

But it seems now that the 64-year-old is to stay, with criticisms of his transfer policy and lack of ambition fading away after the club’s big-money signing of Mesut Ozil last summer, and their current status as Premier League leaders.

Wenger will guide Arsenal into a new era, with the club’s new sponsorship deal with Puma to earn them £30m a year, replacing their existing deal with Nike from July 1st.

Gazidis said: “We are excited to be partnering with Puma, a company whose football heritage and record of innovation have a strong affinity with our own. This represents another important step forward in Arsenal’s progression on and off the pitch.”
