Arsenal join the race to land Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez undoubtedly has been one the stars of the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. At the same time, he is entangled in a transfer tug-of-war, with clubs from Italy and England vying for his signature.
Reports in Italy suggest Juventus are keen to secure his services, while Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal have been taking a keen interest on him.
Liverpool’s interest in Sanchez has been covered extensively in the media over the past couple of months. Last month Italian radio station Sportmediaset claimed that the Reds were preparing a formal bid for the winger, while the ever reliable The Times journalist Tony Barrett further claimed that Rodgers would be willing to sign Sanchez, should he be presented with any opportunity.
Spanish media suggest that Barcelona would be willing to sell Sanchez to Liverpool, in a cash plus player part exchange deal for Luis Suarez.
However, according to the reliable Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio, Arsenal have also joined the race to sign the Chilean.
Well, there’s no doubt that Sanchez would bring in abundance of quality with him at the Emirates, but is he the player Arsenal need? The Gunners have an avalanche of attacking players at their disposal, while signing Sanchez could hamper the progress of young Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Serge Gnabry.
Mundo Deportivo recently reported that Barcelona will be willing to sell the winger for around €30m. So, as it stands, there could be a bidding war for Sanchez in summer, though Liverpool could gain an upper-hand, should they allow Suarez to join Barcelona in a part-exchange deal.
