Arsenal Injury Update: Good & Bad news for Gunners

Jack Wilshere Injury

Jack Wilshere

Ahead of the Gunners’ crucial Champions League tie with German giants Borussia Dortmund, we bring you the latest Arsenal Injury Update.

First the bad news. Arsenal are all set to be without midfielder Jack Wilshere and goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Now the good part. They injury is not too serious therefore the duo would not be out for lengthy periods, per The Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson.

Wenger said after the Manchester United clash that he doesn’t think goal keeper Szczesny was seriously hurt. The Polish keeper collided with Kieran Gibbs in the build-up to the first goal for United.

Wilshere suffered an ankle injury and although initial scan report didn’t appear to show any major damage, the England international is unlikely to take part against Dortmund.

Wilshere was seen leaving the Emirates without crutches or a protective book. The Arsenal medical team will have a detailed look on Monday when his swelling subsides. The Gunners camp think that Wilshere has a soft ankle sprain, while Szczesny has a hip sprain.

While Arsenal have enough players in their ranks to replace Wilshere; Wenger may find difficulty in replacing the Polish keeper, as second choice goal keeper, David Ospina is also out injured. In that case, the gunners will look up to Emiliano Martinez, the young teenage goal keeper, to take the gloves against the mighty Germans.

Arsenal are almost certain to qualify from Group D in the Champions League. The Gunners have 7 points from 4 games and a victory on Wednesday would certainly seal their place in the second round.

Dortmund on the other hand are going through a difficult time in the league. Jurgen Klopp’s men are 16th in the table and will be without star attacking midfielder Marco Reus for the rest of the year.
