Arsenal Injury News: Latest on Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla

Arsenal have suffered a double injury setback that may undermine their Premier League title challenge. Arsene Wenger hoped to have got back some of his star players from injury, but it seems unlikely at the moment.

Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla may not play again this season for the Gunners. Cazorla has a developed an Achilles problem while recovering from a previous injury that caused knee-ligament damage.

“Santi is not doing too well,” Wenger said. “He has some Achilles problems that hold him back. His knee is doing well but his Achilles has inflamed a little bit and we have to put him off impact.”

England midfielder Jack Wilshere is also a month away from returning after an ankle injury kept him out for a major part of the season.

While Wenger can still do out with Wilshere (probably he is habituated with this by now), the 24-year-old’s absence should be a huge concern for the England manager Roy Hodgson. He is definitely out for England’s friendlies against Germany and Holland this month.

However, it is Cazorla’s unavailability that will hurt Wenger a lot, as his creativity from midfield has been sorely missed.

Arsenal will look to gain back some ground on Leicester City at the top of the table, should they win against Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

Arsenal’s midfield has been severely depleted, with Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky also out with injury, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sidelined for around two months as well.
