Arsenal and Napoli could enter into a transfer tug of war over the signing of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi this summer. According to the Italian newspaper, Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners have already held a discussion with the player’s agent-cum-wife, and the speculation of him moving to the Emirates has been constant over the past few weeks.

Napoli are also interested in signing the former Sampdoria striker and have seen a €70m offer turned down recently. However, Inter manager Roberto Mancini didn’t sound too hopeful when asked whether his captain would stay at the club next season.

The Nerazzurri are monitoring Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and have even made an offer for the Uruguayan, who would replace Icardi.

Icardi scored 16 goals and provided four assists in 33 Serie A games last season and only Gonzalo Higuaín (54) has scored more goals than him in the last 2 Serie A seasons that proves his goal scoring prowess. Put it simply, the 23-year-old striker would be a perfect addition for the Gunners.

According to Gazzetta World, Icardi’s agent, Wanda Nara, could be involved in talks with the Gunners again, as she is actively trying to find the best possible solution for the striker.

The Gunners are also interested in signing Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and have had a bid rejected last week for the French striker.

Lyon’s manager Bruno Genesio believes there are some offers that cannot be refused suggesting that Lacazette could be sold provided the club gets a good offer.

“He can leave if Lyon want him to. There are some offers that you cannot refuse,” Genesio told RTL.

“My desire as manager is that the best players stay and Lacazette is very important for the team. I have been assured by my president that we will keep the player.

“You never know what could happen right up until the 31st August.”

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is adamant that he would keep hold of his star striker and says the club is preparing a massive contract offer to tempt him to continue in France.
