Arsenal in pole position to sign Liverpool target Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko has been one of the star performers for France in Euro 2016. Initially, he was not in the first team plans of Didier Deschamps but as the tournament progressed he made himself a valuable player to the side. Although France ended up as the runners-up, Sissoko can take great pride and satisfaction from his tremendous performance in the final against Portugal.

It’s time now for him to consider his future which seems lying away from Tyneside this summer. Rafael Benitez wants him to stay at the club but chances are very high that Sissoko will leave Newcastle United before the transfer window closes. The question is: who will sign him?

Reports in France claimed last week that Liverpool were plotting a move to sign the French midfielder. The Reds probably have made initial enquiries about his availability although they haven’t lodged any formal bid as yet. Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are also seemingly interested while German giants Borussia Dortmund have reportedly thrown their hat into the ring as well.

However, it is Arsenal who are more likely to win the race for his signature. Sissoko had reportedly earlier claimed the Arsenal are the “club of his heart” but whether he is wanted by Arsenal is not confirmed.

According to the latest report from Calciomercato, Arsenal still remain in the pole position for Sissoko’s signature. Arsene Wenger has offered high praise on Sissoko and described his performance in the final as “remarkable”.

“It is true that Sissoko has been remarkable. One could have asked the question before the [Germany] game: does [N’Golo] Kante come into the eleven? Didier has opted for stability since the team had won convincingly and he had reason to do so with Umtiti and Sissoko,” he said.

In all probability, Arsenal will not sign Sissoko. First of all, the Gunners won’t agree to Newcastle’s €25m valuation of the player and secondly, he may not need further midfield reinforcements having already signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.
