Arsenal defeat major blow to United’s title hopes, good for Chelsea and Liverpool
A victory at the Emirates would have given Manchester United a ‘leg-up’ in their pursuit of the top two and effectively pushed Arsenal down in the title stakes. As things stand though, Chelsea and Liverpool have benefited from Arsenal’s win and United, along with Arsenal, now have ground to make up.
Ferguson:
“It is a big blow to us. We needed to win the game.
Our results against the other big clubs is a big concern. It is a complete opposite to last year, when we lost at Chelsea and drew at Arsenal but won the rest.
We have got to get above 85 points to have a chance of winning the league, so we must keep going for it.”
Manchester United still have 3 home games against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to go, and on current evidence they should still be favourites pick up 9 points from those 3 fixtures.
But with Chelsea and Liverpool already building a lead over their rivals, United and Arsenal know they can’t afford to slip up any more or else they’ll be left hoping that one of the top two have a Arsenal or Newcastle United sized downturn in fortunes in the second half of the season – and neither of them look like dropping points so easily.

Looks like the making of a good year for Liverpool. This could be a shocking year for the manure once the Diver Ronaldo caused such upset at his club and Wenger forgot how much he needed help in mid-field. Without so many injured players Chelski could be doing even better but it is Liverpool doing well without Skrtel and Torres that is impressive.
