Arsenal comeback secures top spot

The first game against Bolton was a hard fought win, with Bolton’s fans really getting behind the team, creating a brilliant, hostile atmosphere. Bolton had plenty of chances but Arsenal had theirs and went in front thanks to a delicate touch by Fabregas that used both the inside and outside of this foot to Eduardo, get a return and slot it into the corner of the net. This midfield magician is only 22 and the scary thing is he can only get better. Arsenal got a second thanks to Fran Merida and won the game.

I’ll be honest, I thought Bolton would be worse to play in the second game in three days as they would want to show the new boss exactly what they can do. The line up was the strongest each team could field, and to everyones surprise, Bolton scored. Arsenal still were playing some nice football but Bolton always looked dangerous. Denilson chopped down Lee and the penalty was taken and scored. Two nil down at home. Arsenal needed to win by two clear goals and instead had looked to have blown their chance.

When we went down I turned to my brother and predicted 5-2 to Arsenal. I just had a feeling we’d make the comeback! Rosicky scored just before half-time to give the players a bit of a boost but also send a message to the opposing team.

Cesc Fabregas cannot stop scoring, and like in the previous game had penalty decisions turned down (legitimate) and should’ve scored a hatrick. He got Arsenal back on level terms but there was a foul on the motm of the game at that point, Mark Davis by Gallas. Replays showed a stamp on his ankle and was stretchered off. I will say this, I agree with Wenger, let’s weigh up the tackles from each game. Gallas’s challenge was poor, but so was the wimpish hair pulling and fouls from Bolton, which Arsenal didn’t rise to. They got on with it. It wasn’t like the goal couldn’t have been stopped. After seeing so many incidents like that go against us, it’s about time a bit of fortune was spread our way.

It makes me smile when people talk about Arsenal being a one man team. Sure, Cesc is sensational, but the contribution of new boy Thomas Vermaelen has made us look stronger and added grit. Oh yeah, he can score fantastic goals too. He went through a dry spell but managed to put Arsenal back in front with a sweet shot. He finishes like Eduardo should! Arshavin scored the goal to put Arsenal top of the pile and the team still had plenty of chances to score more. I cannot remember the last time so many chances were created. So Arsenal won by two clear goals, but did it the hard way, as Gooners all very well know.

The game reminded me of Manchester United’s game last year at home against Spurs.  They came storming back, and won it 5-2. That day, they showed the others that they would not got give up. Arsenal have the same mental grit, along with a stubborn nature to keep playing football. Orchestrated by the skipper Fabregas, who himself looks to be the best player in the world right now, Arsenal find themselves top of the league. Oooh to be a Gooner!
