Arsenal are unworthy pretenders to the throne
Not the best, not even close...
Arsenal play the most beautiful football in Europe.
Arsenal play a beautiful game.
Arsenal play the best football in the world.
Where have we heard this bullshit passed around as the ‘absolute truth’? Arsenal fans can be excused – they have invested emotionally in the club and deserve their own version of the truth.
But when did it become acceptable for everyone else to buy in to lies not of their own making?
Arsenal are a very talented team with a set of very good players. Arsene Wenger is a fantastic manager and coach. I admire him for what he has achieved and respect his determination to stick to his guns and methods even when they might not work for a while.
However, this is not about what Arsenal do – it’s about what people seem to think that Arsenal do.
Arsenal don’t play attractive football, not by a long shot. At best you can classify it as occasionally entertaining and rarely effective. Is it just me or do you also get bored with watching a team with no end-product? Are you as enamoured with their shambolic game-finishing skills as you are with their ability to pass the opposition into depression?
Arsenal are over-rated and unworthy pretenders to the throne. They aren’t kings of beautiful football, and they won’t be anywhere near until Arsenal has that one VITAL component that is crucial to every team with a legitimate claim to playing the most attractive football in the world – BALANCE.
Arsenal are unbalanced, and have been so for a few years now. Till they regain that balance, until they regain their effectiveness (and I believe they can do it, and when they do, they will rival Chelsea and Manchester United in a way that will strike genuine fear into the legions of glory-hunting fans around the world – yea, I know), they are mere pretenders, and unworthy ones at that.

Since we lost yesterday, guess you can keep on calling us dirt. But for this current predicament, I would blame Arsene and only Arsene. His team selection yesterday was a joke. Still November promises to be eventful………….
typical bilal kind of an article. he always enjoy putting arsenal in the spotlight especially 4 the wrong reason. u are becoming too predictible and boring ahmed, spice up ur articles a little, we are becoming tired of u pouncing on every slip by the gooners to start writing stuff like this.
what credit did u give them when went turkey to beat fernabache or when they were winning matches? only to wait for slip ups and u are all over the place calling them “unworthy pretenders”. save this premature acessment until the end of the season cos anything can still happen, whether u just trying to be sarcastic or cynical it does excuse these incessant putting down of any team anytime they slip up, it kinda make u look like a(n) arsenal hater.
Have to agree with this one. All the progress we had made last season has been undone in a few short weeks.
The team is in turmoil & a lot of bad feeling has cropped up between players after the last 2 matches.
Gallas needs to leave. He has absolutely no standing left within the team. He started off great at the beginning of last season but went from bad to worse since the Birmingham game. As a player he is still a decent centreback (barring the headers) & is still our supreme goal-poacher (who can forget the ones he scored against Man Utd & Chelsea last season?). But as a leader he’s rubbish.
Wenger needs to wake up. The board needs to appoint a Director of Football quicksmart. Someone who has the respect of Wenger, the fans & the Board but who will also challenge Wenger on transfers. BUY BUY BUY IN JANUARY FOR FUCK”S SAKE!!!
Wenger also needs to get his tactics & team selection right. Playing people out of position is just retarded if you don’t know what you’re doing & Wenger clearly has lost the plot. Didn’t he learn from last season that Diaby is useless out on the left? And if he doesn’t want to play Walcott at least put Eboue out on the right instead of Denilson. Stop playing Denilson as a DMF. Everyone can see he’s more in the mold of Fabregas than Flamini. Song is too slow both in mind & body. He’s got talent but he’s a long way off from filling Flamini’s shoes.
I fear its just going to get from bad to worse. Barring a miracle fightback i expect a drubbing at the hands of Man Utd this weekend. They at least have their shit together despite a bad start to the season.
duduabego – speaking specifically about the Fener game, the euphoria post-win was false and I talked about it in the forum – Arsenal had done poorly in the league before that game and after it everyone was harping on about how ‘arsenal are playing the best football in europe’. I think we can safely say that that claim is false, or do you wish to disagree?
Generally speaking, I would contend that
a) one person can only present their own views,
b) one person can only say so much about the sport (i’d need to write 20+ articles a day if i had to cover each and every angle of each and every story,
c) i’ve praised arsenal in the past but mostly my articles on arsenal are aimed as a counter-balance to fan pieces that profess their undying love for arsenal’s ’style’ and
d) anyone, everyone, is welcome to sign up and write on Soccerlens, as long as you can put two sentences together without tripping over your spelling and grammar.
So feel free to sign up and bash united or praise arsenal or whatever. As long as you can write, your views will not be censored (unless it’s illegal, hate speech or otherwise gets the site into legal troubles). Sound fair?
having said that, winning away at fener was a praise-worthy achievement, so if you haven’t heard me say so, well done arsenal
the manager arsene wenger is seriously misusing the good player and he should start leaving out people like eboue, gallas and sylvester and for the good of the team he should sell them off and buy better defenders
Gallas has to leave, at least sit down for 6 months. As for Silvestre, it was a good buy. Imagine our defence without him……………..Adebayor needs either some counselling or a brain surgery, whichever will take him longer to rejoin………..
Anyone see the Fenerbache game? Absolutely pathetic. Looks like Cesc & RVP aren’t getting along either. Seriously, i’m worried Fabregas might just up & leave end of this season. He doesn’t look like he’s enjoying his football anymore. Plus he needs a rest. He looks really worn out mentally & physically & we’re not even half-way through the season yet.
Wenger needs to buy in January. He needs to solve the leadership crisis. If he can’t do these 2 basic things i fear i’m going to lose all respecct for him as a manager.
I can’t belive it has come to this…
matchday 4 was tough for all english sides. injuries, consecutive games, etc. Saturday will be very, very interesting.
