Defour - on his way to England?

The summer saw a couple of Belgium’s best make moves to the Premier League, in Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini, and in January, another one of Belgium’s top young stars could be on his way to England, as Aston Villa and Arsenal are both interested in Fellaini’s former Standard Liege teammate, midfielder Steven Defour, according to the Daily Mail.

Defour comes with some impressive credentials, as he’s already club captain at 20, has 16 caps for Belgium, and won the Belgian Golden Shoe as the best player in the Belgian top flight last season.

Arsenal took some hits in midfield in the summer with the losses of Alexander Hleb and Mathieu Flamini, and Tomas Rosicky has been out since January and doesn’t look to be coming back anytime soon, so Defour would be a welcome addition.

Aston Villa need to hit the transfer market in January if they want to make a serious run at a Champions League place, and adding Defour to a squad that features a couple of top young talents in Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young could enhance their chances for this season and beyond.

Villa and Arsenal will likely have to pay a little more than half of the £15m that Fellaini cost Everton, as Defour‘s reported price is in the £8m region, a fee that’s easily affordable for both.
